Nice! Those are some beautiful skewers. Feels like a strange component to lust over, but that is what I am doing. I like the orange personally, granted it would depend on the bike.

More Paul goodness for the Binky. The PO had a mismatched set of Paul brakes on it - a Neo-Retro in the front, and a Touring Cantilever in that back. Seriously gauche, Dahling! We simply can't have that.

Almost on a daily basis I'm getting new/nos parts for the 70s French racer that I'm restoring. Without the Lockdown I'd be collecting parts within a 30 mile radius rather than wait but it's a bit like being a child at Christmas knowing what I'm getting but waiting to open the parcel.

tyler_fred. I'm thinking they are. Only drive side pedal decal is rubbed off slightly. Im guessing from being displayed on a bike or display case piece.

Worser and worser... Package was overdue because it got stuck in the sorter...

The BF version of the "Monkey's Paw"

Taped to cardboard, padded envelope. Not enough, surprisingly. Sandwiched between cardboard might have prevented the mangling.

Don't open the door... What was a great set of 4 lightly used Matthausers.

There should be a "view first unread" button at the start of the thread, and if you get an email notifying you of a new message, clicking the link it contains should take you to the first unread (by you) message.

looks like a 650b project. Gonna give it a shot since i had brakes and tires already. Plus working at the bike shop i got a deal on some north road/porter bars. 6 bucks for nice aluminum bars.

I needed another bike like a hole in the head.

My delivery today was a second 1980 Schwinn Voyageur 11.8 all chrome. eBay for $350 delivered. This one is going to get a lot of newer parts ( from my parts bin) Black and chrome. Mavic rims, black Panracer gravel Kong’s, Shimano 105 groupset from a diff local find, carbon bars with a 21.1 quill stem conversion. Brifters.

Basically going to replace my carbon road bike with this one. Initially will be a 6 or 7 speed but eventually may update to 10/11 if I like how it rides and want to put the $$ for a newer groupset was

Well, thank you very much for that, @tyler_fred. That's an easy one; I would set it up as an all-purpose commuter/tourer, something like this:

The Raleigh Wyoming has the same R555 frame as Alyeska and Portage. Those bikes command a premium price right now because of their cantilever brakes, which leave room for fatter rubber. Still, I was able to fit 700c x 35mm tires with ease on this bike, which cost me a grand total of about $250 to build (granted, with quite a few parts bin components). This LeTour would probably fit into the same role. The color is beautiful! It would take a Brooks Brown B17 like it was made for it, and all my standard mods would fit perfectly.

In the end, it would end up looking very similar to this: (Warning: gratuitous art shot to follow. I just can't help myself...)

These mid-level bikes are undervalued right now; everyone is interested in top-tier bikes that aren't really suited for everyday use. So those of us who like to use our bikes for... oh, I don't know... transportation maybe? With a little patience, you can still score some brilliant bargains amongst the 2nd and 3rd-tier bikes. Then, dress them up! They have eyelets for racks and fenders - making them useful for day-to-day riding, and often weighing less than 30 lbs. That is, without all the other useful stuff, like spare tubes, tools and pumps.

Sorry, I didn't receive anything in the post today, except bills. But I got pinged when @tyler_fred mentioned me. Please forgive the interruption. We now return you to your regularly-scheduled program.

i love your philosophy. All my bikes are transportation! I get so much joy out of grocery runs and such on the bike. Also i agree about the undervalued deal on mid tier bikes. When i was first married and in my 20s i couldnt afford anything but gas pipe. Now i have a fleet of chromoloy.
