Fostering cats and kittens.

We lost our baby, Pixel, at the end of February, and I'm honestly still pretty heartbroken about it. So Mrs. WT aren't quite ready to adopt another kitten or cat quite yet. And we just bought a house and moved, so we're also not really set up for a cat having the run of the house.

In the meantime, we've decided to give back a little. Our cat was very people oriented, and very loving for 16 years. She had obviously been loved when she was little, so we are trying to do the same for some future cat families.

We fostered a 9 month old a few weeks ago. We only wound up keeping him for 10 days before the adoption agency found him a permanent home. He's an orange tabby, and he was just a big, dumb, sweet goof. Yes, I cried like a baby when we dropped him off, but it was worth it and they seemed like really good people. The agency we are working with is called Best Friends and they are a nationwide no-kill pet adoption agency that seems to do really good work.

We've had 3 kittens for 10 days now. They are a handful. For the first ~week, they needed feeding every 4 hours, a mixture of canned food and formula. They are all now weaned onto cat food only, and their feedings are extending to about 6 hours. We're going to try to see if they can do an 8 hours stretch tonight. They just had their first round of vaccinations yesterday, and they were totally calm and slept most of the way down and back to the vet. They are so good!

Adopted a foster cat someone bottle fed until it could eat on his own. Now he is 12 1/4 years old . I put an old chair that the cats can rip up. They know not to touch the good furniture. It was a deal I had to make since I’m not in control.

I was a dumpster cat. I’m scared of that I Pad you have facing me lol.

I'm sorry to hear about Pixel. That's my brother's cat's name too.

Pit stop in Brigham City Utah last summer at a KOA cabin then cruise through Layton and Salt Lake City heading to Moab. Beautiful area with several places to go for the outside activities. I have cabin fever so a daily bike ride is good medicine.

My last cat was going to be a foster if she was mean to the cat I'd just adopted, and I ended up with both of them for 13 years. Even with the second cat terrorising the first cat.

We won't keep these three.

Don't get me wrong, I'm gonna cry when we take them back for adoption, that's a foregone conclusion.

But we just bought a house, and there's too much for a kitten to get in to right now, and we have to much to do to really spend the time needed with kittens (we plan on adopting 2, maybe 3). We'll adopt when the time is right for us. For now, though, we enjoy having the little hellions around, making them into very people friendly beasties, and finding them loving homes.

Nail clipping drama this evening.

My regular groomer reopened in June and is backlogged for two months.

Cats are nice but the worst dog is better than the best cat. Except for the biting..

I'm just jealous that you have cat-wrapping skills! My "purritos" come undone very quickly. (Now that I think of it, I'm not so great at the food kind of burrito, either, and those are smaller and not struggling! Guess I never had a chance with cats...)

Ooh, Hondo, what a handsome kitty! (I get the "will not stay still for photos." Mine is not amused that I am his own personal paparazzi {paw-parazzi?} and he will sit there looking cute until he sees the camera come out, then will very pointedly look away and refuse to look at me again, lol. Me, I just go for the victim-blaming: "If you didn't want to have your picture taken constantly, you shouldn't be so cute!")

Hard disagree. I love both, and we plan on getting at least one dog in the near future as well. They are different, and depending on their, and your, personalities, there's really no 'better'. It's all a matter of preference. I love both.

Also, we plan on getting some ducks, chickens, geese, and goats. We will get them as young as possible and hand raise them to be friendly, although these will not be 'pets' and will have coops/housings on the 'back 40' of the property. We will have goats' milk and plenty of eggs, though.

Be wary of geese. They can be mean critters...

When I was a wee lad...my brother and I were out at my aunt/uncle's farm....brother leaned up against the bird coop. The goose came out and chomped on his butt.

Back in 2017 I got chased by a flock of mean geese along the Potomac on the C&O. I don’t remember which town it was but I barely got away.
