There was an article I read, I think the link got posted somewhere in this thread, that FL was way ahead of the curve in posting local crime reports online. So people all over the world were able to see and write stories about every little thing, if there was nothing interesting going on in their neck of the woods. The headlines usually started "Florida Man ...' So weird stuff happens everywhere, maybe it's somewhat more prevalent in FL, but the extra press magnifies it.
