Remember when...

Remember back to December 2019 where the biggest issue around was whether the Peloton ad was sexist or not?

Life seems to have become very strange since those “simple” days.

Was it sexist or somehow a secret story of abuse?

I think that it was portrayed by some as both.

I remember "My wife... I think I'll keep her." I don't remember what the commercial was for though.

Hm, missed the sexism. Not to say there isn't any, of course... too subtle for me though.

That song is kinda yuck. Is it the song?

Despite being well proportioned, her husband buys her the bike, so it’s a form of body shaming. That was one of the contentions asserted.

Dang! I had forgotten about that. Can’t remember what it was for either.

Heh. Here it is.

I dunno... seems like a bit of a reach, compared to the possibility it was all about cardio...

But then, as someone kinda on the spectrum, I'm clueless about manipulating women.

I think it was about the look of fear in her eyes and the whole implied "if you don't use this and tighten up, I'm going to kick you to the curb" that rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.

Yes. That was another complaint I read. And fear is a natural reaction. I was dating a woman who convinced me to go to my first spinning class. She told me the instructor was tough. Despite being in good shape I was scared. Turned out I had good reason to be. Instructor kicked ass.

I agree. Being thin doesn't necessarily mean one is fit/well conditioned.

Compared to this ad from the 50's, any sexism in the Peloton commercial is barely noticeable. Excuse the grainy image, it's 1950's technology.

The best looking women are the the strong ones that lift and have some muscle and meat on their bones. Famished women to me are unattractive and the the ones that look like Barbie Dolls. Ok Baltimore Barbie is funny but A strong woman that needs minimal makeup to be hot is what I think is attractive, And strong women are more useful on the ranch Hot and can kick my arse is a great woman.

Pro tip: almost certainly, nobody here gives a rat's arse what you find attractive. And banging on about it at the drop of a hat ain't a great look

We're bombarded with news of not only actual newsworthy issues, but so many others. People will forget or just move on to the next thing they're fed. Remember the Parkland HS shootings?, How about those kids lost in the flooded caves in Thailand? The Walmart shootings in El Paso? The list goes on and on. The outrage at the Parkland shootings really seemed like it might have some legs. I haven't heard it mentioned in months. If something like that can fall off the public's radar, something like a Peloton commercial controversy is just a blip. Peloton stock is trading higher than it ever has right now.

There are a bahzillion guys NOT on the spectrum that are clueless about manipulating women. Don't blame it on "the spectrum".

Don't try to "manipulate" women, and you will be far far better off.
