Any guesses on this vintage gal?

Before I take a plunge...

Bulbous stays/seat tube attachment

Interesting cut-out

Elegant cable guides and a flat top fork crown

Campy guides and dropouts

Obviously a repaint...

Longhorn campy drops

Reminds me of a Spanish build for some reason...

I...
I think ...
I think this may be a Ron Cooper.

I've seen them with the four holes in the BB like this, and the stays are a dead ringer, both in the way they are attached to the seat lug and the way they are domed at the dropout. Fork crown is also something he's used. Are the fork blade ends domed where they attach to the dropouts?

Hell of a find, if I'm right.

Not that the bottom bracket cutouts are exclusive to, but Ron Cooper came to mind as well. An old 70ís Bicycling! Magazine as I recall did a write up on him.

I wasn't aware of the holes in the bb shell on Ron Coopers, maybe those are the older ones (?).

I completely concur WRT the seatstay joinery, that looks like Ron Cooper's great execution there.

This frame being about my size, would be oh so jealous if I didn't have one already!

You will love the ride.

I bid on it. If it is a Ron Cooper, would it have British threading? What tubes might they be?

BSA threading for sure, likely Reynolds 531 tubes, likely double butted and thinner than touring spec unless it was a custom build for a gorilla.
His work and materials were always top notch.

we are clearly in Britain here

lug pattern Prugnat 62/d

fork crown Vagner DL

top tube guides post manufacture add-on

looks like we are in the early 1970's

mitred-in seat stays and BB cutouts are certainly suggestive of the barrel maker

You're lucky it's not my size. I'd have sleuthed it out and cut a deal with the seller behind your back!

Love my 1970s-era Cooper to death. Its serial also has 3 digits and starts with 7.

Once again, you guys are awesome at this!

I assumed early-mid 70s, but bottle bosses and DT shifter bosses made me think a bit later (77 or 78). With the bulbous stay caps, I got confused.

Forgive me, I see something that looks Cooper-ish and I get excited. Like there are baby pictures of me next to the family heirloom Ron Cooper frame I'm riding on now. You could say I'm a fanboy.

Sorry, just word play instigated by juvela and his 'Cooper-barrel-maker' references. Hence 'stave'. I respect everyone's opinions on this kind of sleuthing.

HA, that went right over my head.
See I can't even keep my banter straight when presented with photos of Ron Coopers.

...just watch out for the bung hole!

---

note that serial appears to begin 7 2 8(?). 1972 would be a plausible construction date. (unfamiliar with Ronnie's serial system)

---

shell looks like a BOCAMA pattern. here it is on a Gazelle Champion Mondial of 1979 -

---

if you should elect to proceed with it please begin a build thread so that we can all follow along and share in your enjoyment of working with the frame.
