A drunk a-sshole tried to shoulder-check me off of my bike last night.

I was moving pretty quick in the Annex and I saw him coming so slowed down a bit but he slammed into my right side. Lucky for me, I am not small and, with the bike, I am about 210lbs; he bounced off of me and into a parked car, hitting his head on the rear bumper. I stupidly asked if he was okay but he got up pretty quick so I guess he wasn't hurt. A few people on the sidewalk started yelling at him and he sort of stumbled off but if I had been smaller or a less-experienced cyclist (I didn't fall), I could have been really badly hurt. What a dick.

I don't know if I would have been able to not flip out on him. Good on you dude, here's hoping he catches whatever awful karma he deserves in the near future.

Yeah, if this had happened when I was younger, there would have been a big problem. As it was, I figured that the head-to-the-bumper was karma enough. I was pretty mad about it the next day because I was riding with my friend and she is 5'3 and about 110lbs and if he had done this to her, she would have been very badly hurt. I also forgot to mention that I did get pushed into traffic by the guy but I was luckily nowhere near a car....until I scrunched up against an SUV that was stopped in traffic. The driver saw what had happened and asked me if I was okay, so that was nice of him...he saw what had happened I guess.

I have done a million different dumb things when I have been drunk but I have never tried to hurt anyone, it says a lot about the kind of person that this was.

Thought I would toss this out to the B.F. before I put on Craigslist.

My buddy gave me a bike to sell for him. Its a Velo-Sport Michli. Tan colour...52cm seat...55cm top. Pretty decent frame and fork...Tange Mangaloy tubing..forged drop-outs...fender and 1 bottle boss. It has all Shimano parts (brakes, shifters, hubs, cranks, derailleurs...older stuff but nice quality. Weinmann eyeletted rims in 27". SIS downtube 6 speed. It would make a really nice winter bike. It is in pretty good shape. He wants $100 for it. I think it is a score for that. P.M. me if interested.

****ing hell. I think I'm having to accept the reality that my bike was purchased with the steerer tube cut too short and no amount of crazy positive rise stem searching is going to change the fact that I need a new fork so I can pop a third spacer on there. Total bummer

This sucks. What are the details? You didn't know it was too short before purchase?

First real bike so I didn't know anything beyond the salesperson telling me "it should fit". It was initially set up with the stem flipped level and like 5 inches of bar drop which I thought was normal and I'd just get used to. It's a MASI speciale fixed, and I'm looking at not a crazy amount of saddle/bar drop, but enough that it's no fun to ride for more than 2 hours and I'd honestly like things a lot more comfortable. I tried two stems from Urbane, some little 80mm 11 degree rise that has nice reach but currently too low, and I've got an Origin 8 100mm 17 degree rise that I'm not hopeful on as the reach is going to be way out there. I'll try and see, but really with another spacer underneath (I can only fit 1 and a half currently) my cockpit would probably be perfect.

I suspect the MASIs might be sized with long top tubes as most of the ones I've seen have a decent amount of drop to them as well.
