Crazyguyonabike.com status update
Hi.
Neil Gunton and I just had a very enjoyable phone call that lasted quite a while! I am posting this message on Neil's behalf.
The bad news is that the crazyguyonabike.com web site is currently down. Neil has been experiencing hardware problems with his web server. He spent the last few days trying to troubleshoot the problem to rule out both hardware and software. Tonight some disks are being replaced in the server to hopefully eliminate the problem.
Neil will be spending tonight and probably tomorrow rebuilding the software to get the site back up and running so the good news is that the site should be back in the next day or two.
Neil believes that all content has been successfully backed up as well as the email messages that had been received before the site went down. If you have recently sent an email to the site to update a journal then you may receive a "bounce" message saying that the message was undelivered. Once the site is back then simply resending the original
message should correct the problem.
Neil apologies for the site being down for so long. Personally I am just happy to know that it will be back soon for all of us to enjoy.

Good to hear it will be back. I was just about to post a message asking if other people were having trouble accessing it. Then I saw this thread. I'm following a trip by Davey Rance, a New Zealander that I met briefly at Fair Haven Park up here off the shore of Lake Ontario. He's headed across the country, and he writes a great journal.

Thanks for letting us know, Jamie.
Lots of us are following someones tour, and didn't know who to check with, in order to find out website status.

I know exactly what you mean about following tours. I've been enjoying a few myself so I've been missing the updates too! On the good side just think of how much reading you have to look forward to now!

Neil and I exchanged email again today. He is continuing to work on getting the site back up.
I'm looking forward to reading up about the Feldmann's, Heidi, and about five other journals plus I have my own new journal to start for my upcoming ride around Lake Michigan. I've had the priviledge of interviewing Heidi and the Feldmann's in the past and I have to admit that what struck me about them is how fun, interesting and kind they are as people outside of their journals.
What's that old saying? "Good things come to those who wait." - Kind of appropriate in this respect eh? (grin)

Thank you for the information. I am following several of the current trips, and was wondering what had happened.

I just conversed with Neil again. Unfortunately problems continue and the new estimate for the return of Crazyguyonabike.com is either Saturday or Monday.
Unfortunately/Fortunately I leave on my tour around Lake Michigan starting this coming Sunday so I will be unlikely to be able to provide additional updates after that time.

The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently On Tour. The Web site might be experiencing Blissful Tailwinds, or you may need to adjust your itinerary, and get your arse out there!

Hi All!
Neil reurned my call late yesterday (7/7) afternoon to share the status of the problems he's been dealing with. There was some finger pointing going on and Neil is digging into his hardware stores, see: closet :>)
He expects to have a working server system back up towards the end of the weekend, certainly in a matter of days, not weeks.
He believes that nearly all e mails have been captured and will be posted to keep journals up to date.
I had spoken with his wife after tracking down the home phone # and she is very pleasant taking a message for Neil. I was hoping to just check in but was nicely surprised to have Neil call back and share his persornal concerns about the site. He really appreciates the compliments that he and the site receive. He almost seemed shy about the shared value many of us place on the knowlegdge and vicarious pleasure we receive from the site and being able to share amongst ourselves and newcomers, like myself. Thanks Neil!
Regards,
Tim

Well, given the service he's providing for everyone, I'm not about to complain. I can wait until he gets everything ironed out.
And, yeah, I'm sure it's a huge hassle for him. ISP problems suck. Hardware problems suck. Hardware problems on top of ISP problems? That's gotta be the worst.

crazyguyonabike.com is back up, and has been steadily available since about mid-day yesterday. And Neil is keeping a close eye on things...
There have been a lot of journal updates since the site came back up, so apparently authors who are currently on the road also got word that the site is back.
