Trouble with Michelin Pro3
I have roughly 700 miles on a pair of Pro3's, and I've blown the sidewalls out of both of them over the past few weeks. I repaired the first one (front), and it held up well until the past couple of days. It looks a bit sketchy at the moment, and I plan on getting rid of it.
Worse was today, when the rear took its turn. Ripped from the bead to the tread, no chance in hell of doing anything with it. Tried to boot it for the ride home, with poor success due to the size of the tear. Limped home with about 50 lbs pressure in it, and the tube sticking out like a clown nose.
I know tire failure is part of cycling. I realize I'm big for a cyclist (210#). I'm cognizant of the fact that my local roads aren't smooth as a baby's bottom. But these tires have been a joke. As much as I loved my Pro2's, I despise these Pro3's. Just one guy's opinion.

What tire pressure are you running? I haven't ridden the tire and am interested as I love the P2R as well.

What pressure did you have them inflated to? Maximum pressure is 116 PSI. I'd try contacting Michelin.

I'm betting there's not a significant difference in the sidewall's resistence to cuts between a ProRace2 and a ProRace3. I think you just had the misfortune to have two incidents back to back.
I destroyed a Continental Attack in the first 5 miles with a sidewall cut. However, I don't think Continental Attacks are bad tires. Stuff happens, and a sample of 2 isn't enough to draw a conclusion from.

I once put a fresh pair tires on my bike, only to get 20 minutes away from the house and I had flatted both. Not sure how that happened, but it did.

are your brakes toed in correctly? sounds suspiciously like brakes might have rubbed a little on the tire as well as the rim.

I tried the glue and denim method. There's a thread up at the moment where someone demonstrates a similar repair. It worked for a few weeks, and now it needs to be redone...but I'm not in the mood. My p2r's are back on my bike now.

All the reviews I have read about them mention poor traction in the rain, and weak side walls. I have had mine for about 500 miles with out any trouble. A teamate blew a sidewall out last night on his (but it was the result of hitting another cyclist). I think Michelin has taken a step back with the Pro3's

I am just over 1,000 miles on my 3's and while I do not find them worlds better than the 2's I do prefer the handling of the 3's better and knock on wood....no flats, no blowouts and no sidewall damage. I fill them to 110/115 EVERY ride.

Sidewalls of Pro Race 2 and 3 is a strong point. You likely had some bad luck.
