Martin Toft Madsen UCI Pro Hour Record Attempt

Martin (MTM on multiple forums, although not this one to my knowledge) is making his attempt on Wiggins hour record today in Aguascalientes.
streaming from the UCI's youtube page

Martin is a day job Pro Cyclist, with some high end finishes at Worlds (last year he was roughly a minute 1/2 behind Froome) and other TT's, he's also done quite a few hour records at sea level, with the gain he *should* expect from going to Aguas, he's going to really have a chance to beat Wiggins record.

Against him is the fact that the track was just re-finished, which will likely make the track a little slower than it "usually" is.

He got a great result, for a non-Sky cyclist... ;-)

hah, I agree, although it was obviously not as far as he would have hoped.

I think the really highlights two things... one is that altitude isn't a cure all (although it certainly helped a lot) and that Wiggins record is very strong (duh, right?)

I think Martin likely could have went 54 yesterday if he had rode "his best hour" on the day. But of course with the camera's rolling, you can't really start below record pace and just ride "your best" - you have to start on pace and hope it works out.

MTM went 53.619km. That's 2nd fastest all-time (under current rules), only surpassed by Brad Wiggins' standing record of 54.526Km. Bravo, MTM.

He was on pace for a 54.4 around midway and really visibly struggled to hold his pace. Impressive shot for sure.
