green is better than de rosa red.....my wife spotted that one in a nano second.....any other bike or frame is was not notices and no total concept.....de rosa red was clearly a +1 in bold....workd to the wise

Sounds too much like Philosophy. I try to imagine how much more I would overthink things if I was into Philosophy, and it just scares me away.

We're all focusing on the N, and that's the wrong focus. Like emphasizing the wrong syllable in a word.

"+1" by itself isn't an equation or a formula or anything, so we need an N in front of it. It's all about the +1.

I count bikes and frames the same. One reason is if I have the frame, I will likely have the parts laying around to build up that frame. Heck, my parts stash could build up multiples of the frames I have. The way I store frames, they take up almost as much space. Then if you consider I have the wheels hanging up separately, and all the parts, its a wash space wise.

Some of those do NOT* hold when SWMBO = X.

Problems begin when SWMBO states that SWMBO = 0. Then no matter what N equals, when applied its akin to multiplication laws, 0 X N = 0. Now that's irrational in my book.

N + 1 (explained as I see it)

N is the variable.
N can represent bikes, frames, or whatever you select.
N = 0, !, 2, ... This value is dependent on you and as you know changes up or down depending on needs, wants, whims or external forces ( possibly a significant other)

+1
Now that is the easy part.
Who among us is not admiring, looking, thinking about the next possibility!

S-1
While I have tried to live by the N + 1 rule, I have found that S-1 is very powerful.
That is Separation will occur if you do not remove one item.

Be well and Stay Safe as you cycle!

OP: I don't know about all that, but I recognize the bike. Mine is a 1989, I think yours is a 1990 or 1991 as it has the replaceable derailleur hanger and I think just a touch smaller diameter downtube, mine is 2" I think. Man I put miles on that bike for 15 years, went through three sets of wheels, last set is heavier double-socketed rims, so no more stress cracks, and 32mm tires, I had to just barely dust the back of the front derailleur with a file to clear those. Been in storage now for almost 15 years, I now ride a 20" wheel folder fitted with townie racks. Wow, that black one has the original wheels, not even worn the anodizing off the sides yet. Not much use.

Always at ' N'

Yesterday I bought another bike, making it n + 1 overall.

So am I (n - 1) + (n + 1) = n ?

Or am I now technically n + 1 since the other bike will still be here for a couple more hours, and then I will be n - 1 after it has been shipped?

This whole n thing has me really confused.

n - 1 in the box, new "mystery n" next to the box.

You are always at N, (even after buying or selling some), the +1 is the next one on the horizon.

That would be a line, as N>0 and can not equal 0 then N*0=S

Too busy focusing on the current possibility, Rocklobster frame is being welded up, hubs, rims, and spokes are on order, Chorus 2x12 disc on order, and still have to figure out the seat, post, stem, handlebars, bar wrap, etc. Already have tires from last season that are only a season old and I'm cheap when it comes to tossing good stuff. Once this is done I still won't be thinking about it as the focus will be SWMBO's next road bike so her current 12yo one can become the "house bike", basically permanently attached to the trainer but that will be another 6months at least. I'll start looking when the Emonda 5 in purple goes on clearance.

Russ Roth After 44 years with SWMBO, and her love for bikes also, just not an issue for us. And, I know where lines are drawn, and when and how to execute a strategic retreat to a more defensible position. Busy with building up her 80's Bottecchia CroMor right now.

10 Bikes is definitely my limit. My problem is I am SO much better at buying them than selling them. But I have new rules for myself:

1) Only buy bikes for resale that are late model inexpensive online finds that have at least $50-$100 flip potential. only buy bikes that are 7 years old or newer that you would find at a LBS
2) Use the profits to feed my Classic Vintage Habit
3) Get pickier on my Classic/Vintage taste
4) DO NOT GET ON EBAY or AMAZON daily to look at bike parts

That said, I need to sell about 4 bikes. Maybe. Someday and buy at least 1 more
