Wheel Depth in the Mountains

I’m currently running a set of Dura Ace C40’s but I’m wondering if that’s a smart wheel choice for the Iron Horse in Durango, which runs from Durango to Silverton. Think I should switch to a C24, F and R, or even keep the C40 in the rear and a C24 in the front? I’m from the Midwest so the mountains are new territory for me. Thanks for the input.
