What a tough appraisal, I would imagine it'd be a tough sale. This beast must have been around $5,000+ new, so I'd hate to undervalue it.
However, I see tandem bikes languish at prices that are beyond reasonable, just because no one wants the hassle.
I am not sure what the tandem market looks like in California, but I wouldn't doubt this bike is worth $2,000+ the right person.
That person might be very difficult to find though...

A new frame-only Calfee Tetra Tandem will set you back $5895:
Calfee Tetra - Tandem Cycle Works
...so a complete frame with Record and trispokes? I'd think $3K would be a reasonable ask, but I have no knowledge of the high-end tandem market.

I have alerts set for Calfees on Craigslist and eBay and have been looking to purchase a used one. They don't come up often. About two months ago a fairly new dragonfly with a belt drivetrain was listed for like $5k. I think it was under priced so sold quick. Being top end and pretty new is different than high end but older.
There has been a newer (no diagonal tube /disc brake) for sale for like 3 months in the mid $4k. It is no longer on Craigslist, but we are moving and was gonna offer $3500 during our drive through. I don't think it sold as the add was at one month last I looked and Craigslist adds expire around one month.
The only one for sale right now that I know of is on tandemclassifieds.com for $3900. Has been for sale since 2 March. It's more than I think it is worth.
I also figure things like your location and willingness to ship will matter a bit.
How bad do you want to sell it and how quickly? My opinion is most people looking for Calfees have money and don't want old tech.

Yeah, you're probably right about this being an older model with the diagonal tube. I'm not in a hurry, it's just hanging out of the way in my garage with the other bikes I can no longer ride.
Thanks for the info.

I'm overhauling it before I put it up for sale. It's a 54cm Bianchi (Reparto Corsa frame) made with Columbus TSX Ultralight. It's also equipped with Campy Record, only this one has a Racing Triple crankset and derailleurs.
It will be up for sale once I get it completed and priced.

Sorry to hear you're not riding them anymore. Hope things will permit you to get back to riding sometime in the future.
Southern CA is the place to try and sell for a higher price, if you don't mind relisting it over and over. To give some current reference locally, there is a Zona for sale at $2850 (https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/...127924882.html). If you price in the $3.5-$5k range, from my personal observations, you'll be listing over and over, but you might eventually get someone to bite.

Pretty sure that bike as it sits would cost over $10,000 to replicate new.
Our Dragonfly with a bit more top end build was $20,000.
We have a new Tetra on order which is a little over $16,000.
Im sure the OP’s bike wouldn’t sell used for even half of that, but they are very expensive new.

You're right.
I hate getting rid of it, but it's doing no good to anyone hanging in the garage.

IMHO, Several things going to hold down the value of that bike. 1) the older lateral tube frame, 2) rim brakes instead of disc, 3) it appears to be 9 speed, and 4) the wheels.
While the wheels were expensive and at one time the cat’s pajamas for time trialing, I think they limit the market to which the bike appeals. I’d consider selling the wheels separately and replacing them with a more conventional wheel set.

Craig Calfee can upgrade with BTCs, mounts for discs. The brifters can be upgraded to 10spd, and I can get new wheels, but I'll try selling it as is initially. If it doesn't sell, I may just give it to a friend or relative that is interested in tandem cycling. My neighbor across the street is dying for he and his wife to take it for a ride. I'm at risk with this crap going around, so I can't get close to others, so instructions for them will have to wait.
Thanks for the input.

I don't think I'll get anywhere near what this is worth, so my wife and I are going to donate it to a blind cycling organization.
Does anyone know of one that is in need? I'm presently reviewing the Adaptive Equipment and Shops sub-forum that has a lot of organizations to review.
Looking for first-hand knowledge of a group in need.
Thanks,
Rich

Thanks for that Rich -- truly an inspiration.
Im tired of getting offers of 3 and $400 bucks for $1500 bikes myself so I may try to do this as well with some of my fleet

You might want to ask for suggestions at the Bike Forums tandem forum. I know of one organization called Bicycling Blind that you might check out.
