Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It is amazing, for at least the first 10 miles, maybe more, I question myself and feel like I should just go home and park the bike lol. Then I hit a stride where my body starts feeling great and I feel like I can go forever. Cardio was never, and is still not my strong suit but so far, the limiting factor on how far I ride, has been my imagination on where to go. That and the fact that I really don't like the idea of riding on streets, which is a real problem when trying to do a long ride.

For me, it's the first 2-5 miles I feel like giving up. I live on top of hills on one side and fairly level plains on the other, so I get a lot of wind. I can deal with all that, but when by myself, I tend to cut short. If I have someone with me, I can push through. I just need to stop being tender.

i say skip the half century and go an extra 12 more miles for a 100km ride (and complete the Strava challenge). The fatigue will help you not notice the difference . So I hopped onto the contra costa canal trail from iron, exited onto Grayson then onto pleasant hill rd which turned into Alhambra and went to Martinez. There is nice scenic path from there, to carquinez bridge. A little hilly but I survived off my lowest (52t/25t gear). It’s great for photos and has several benches you can use for breaks. I highly recommend it. Or you can go south, down to stoneridge, then there is a road that goes parallel to 580 which leads you to castro valley. Either one should get you 50+ miles. Good luck with whatever you choose. Hit me up on strava if you’d like. Search “Erik Antonio”. See ya

InvertedMP How have you attached the Varia to your bike? The straps look thicker and of better quality than what I'm using. Thank you.

That might be shadows, the rubber o-ring thing is fairly thin. I would love to get a better solution for mounting.

Another Cervelo

Another new Cervelo owner here. Got great deal on Brand new 18 Cervelo R3 UDi2 then swap out stem and handle bar, also got new Bora WTO wheelset. So far enjoying it very much.
It seems there are lots of Cervelo deals around.

Any guess as to what the weight is on the stock bike?
It's probably #3 on my list right now of choices as I am actively searching for a new bike since I sold my previous frame.

'18 Domane SL 5. I didn't care for the Domane very much when this frame came out. Fast forward to now, I think it gorgeous. 58cm frame w/ Williams 58's. Wheels are from my Felt IA I recently sold, they look better on here.

@ the_sci_ Guy

this is a size 56cm frame. The only reason i went for the SL5 was for this color, I know that there were the project one options out there for a lighter frame, but im no pro, I am fine with the "heavier" frame.

I love that it goes from purple to green based on where you're standing and where the light is hitting it. Everyone that's seen it absolutely loves it and I do as well.

I weighed it and it came in just under 19lbs. i believe the stock version is at 19lbs. since then nothing has changed, i believe i cracked the right hand shifter, it works fine, i just feel a piece loose on there that may have happened when i leaned it wrong against the wall and it fell, i may upgrade the group set, but i don't know, i added a 4iiii pwoermeter, so i may not move from the 105 for a while.

I guess I went a different route than most folks here. I already ride a 2010 Wilier Izoard with Ultegra 11-25 groupset, but due to health, the 11-34 was more ideal for me on my longer rides. As I don't ride as hard and long (get your minds out the gutter ) as my fit friends, I decided to shop around for a more modest ride. I still wanted a carbon bike but didn't want to shell out a wad of cash, so went the BikesDirect route and picked up a 2021 Motobecane Immortal Pro with Ultegra R8000 groupset in 11-34. It's been a smooth ride so far and while not as fast as the Wilier on the flats, the inclines have been less painful for me. I am not a fan of flat black as I like colors, but it's been great. I still alternate the two for rides depending on where I plan to go that day.

My Wilier and the new Motobecane.

First bike I built from scratch

Here are a few pictures of the bike I finished building last week. I crashed twice end of last year. The first time I woke up in an ambulance, and that's all I remember, the crash itself is a complete black hole. The second time was the second ride after I recovered. This time around, the frame was a write-off. I decided to build my next bike from the ground up, including building the wheels myself, and it's finally here, yay! 8 Months without a road bike is no fun, ha. The build:

- Workswell 268 frameset and seatpost
- Workswell integrated stem/handlebar
- 50mm carbon rims (22mm internal, 29mm external), dt swiss 350 hubs, pillar spokes and nipples, 1580 grams including tubeless tape.
- Ultegra Di2- DA crank (52-35 / 175mm)
- 140mm XTR rotors
- 12S XTR chain
- Fizik Vento Argo R1 saddle
- DA pedals

Weight : 7.72kg as pictured.

what type of kickstand are you using on the Giant? I’m not sure if it’s the angle, but it seems to be mounted in an odd spot?

hello. It’s an iSkys (Amazon) kickstand and yes, it’s in a weird spot - near the end of the dropout. If I move it forward, my pedal will hit it. I’m in the process of selling the bike and I don’t intend to include the hideous kickstand =)

How I got it,initial SS build and finally how it is now.

I laid a light dusting of prism metal flake over the shark grey base for a little razzle dazzle without being in your face bling.

To me, this one of those bikes that looks like it’s going fast even while sitting still, posing for a picture. Sweet! Thanks.
