Avocet Touring ll Saddle

On these thin leather saddles, use same stuff to maintain as a Brooks?

Why not? I did the same on smooth-finish Selle Italia Turbos (in moderation), with no ill effect. I think those Avocets were of Italian manufacture too.

.
...almost any kind of wax based leather product works on the leather cover of an Avocet saddle. And you don't need to worry about softening the leather. I've been using a Carnuba wax based product lately...but just look for a wax that says you can use it on leather. The Brooks stuff is fine, but a little expensive. Even Sno Seal will work on an Avocet.

This one says made in USA! Its not brittle, but cleaned it with a bit of Lexol, will put the other goop on later. Thanks!

Proofide will work, but is overkill for a plastic-based saddle. SnoSeal or other leather treatment will be fine as well.

The first Avocet saddles were made in Italy by Selle Italia. Later production was made in the United States.

While I don't know whether there's any correlation between made in USA or Italy, and the cover material, I know that some Avocets appear to have real leather, and some have some sort of "pleather" that you can see the imprint of fabric backing in. I wouldn't use any petroleum product on the synthetic type, for sure. Later Avocet appears to have gotten into some Spenco fabric cover that is, in my opinion, unctuous to behold and sit on. I really liked Avocet products, especially those from the Jobst Brandt era, like their FasGrip clincher tires; equal to the Specialized Turbo tires from that era. But there are some clinkers too.

I have a USA-made Touring II saddle; the cover appears to be actual leather. The Touring I model may have used a synthetic material.
