doubtful. the bay area has plenty of public universities and the la area has plenty of private unis (usc, pepperdine, occidental, harvey mudd,,,)
if stanford were down in la, it would essentially be ucla. the warm but not too warm weather is not helping. close all the beaches in socal
from ucsb/goleta south to and including san diego/coronado till the day after labor day and let's see where we stand.

the black hills are a gorgeous area and hope to make it back there some day to ride all those paved roads.

Weeks of hard work in FL appear to be paying off. Johns Hopkins says we've got more infections, a higher rate of infection, and a higher case-fatality ratio than TX. Floridaman: Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory since 1953.

Yup, after this morning I fully realize Texas will be coming in second to Florida the undisputed champion. Florida just has better home grown talent.

Looks like the winner will be Florida.

As the Virus Surged, Florida Partied. Tracking the Revelers Has Been Tough.

What are you doing in Texas? You must be holding back test results to make FL look bad. There's no way people in TX can be less responsible than people in FL; Floridaman is going to have to work harder, not smarter if we want to retake our lead. (JHU shows TX with almost 1,000 more cases than FL the morning of 7/9).

Thatís what I was doing there. Started in Rapid City. Went up to Spearfish then rode Spearfish Canyon over to the Mickelson Trail. Took that to the southern end. From there I was supposed to go to Nebraska but there was bad flooding and a good amount of dirt highway riding, so I skipped that part and went straight to Hot Springs then to Custer via Wind Cave and Custer State Park. Did a day ride over Needles Highway. Eventually went to the KOA near Hill City and did a loop ride to Keystone on Mount Rushmore before heading back to Rapid City. Iíd like to go back and do the Nebraska portion.

The one thing I didnít like was eating out. I usually cook on tour but decided to leave the kitchen home. The choices were sometimes not what my body runs best on.

The highest single day total of new cases in any state since the beginning of the pandemic. FloridaMan, stand up and take a bow. There will be an asterisk next to the number, as the number of test results are a lot higher than usual so a data dump of some sort happened.

Yup, Florida is #1 again with a record single day 15,000 infections. Come on Texas! We are now in 8th place last time I looked.

Well done,Disney! I think FL will set an even higher record thanks to them! The rest of the country is getting dropped on the climbs.

It would be fun to just point my finger at FL and laugh HA HA, but I live here and have to put up with this stupidity. Take our Governor...please.

Well....The most altitude one could theorhetically gain in a single climb is 345'. Is it possible to climb continuously from sea level to Britton Hill?

Although we'd like to take all the credit, FloridaMan couldn't do it alone. We have tourists flocking in from all over the country to help us push the numbers ever higher.

It is hard to tell if the southern states are decreasing with the rate of growth of new cases of COVID.

However, quite a few states are experiencing an increase in mortality in the last couple of weeks (a trailing indicator, as we've known for a while).

California may be flattening the curve of new cases, but deaths were up by a lot last week

Florida, new cases saw a new spike. Deaths are up.

Texas cases continue to climb, and mortality is up by more than double in the last week

I think someone mentioned that Arizona seems to be flattening the curve... again, but the number of mortalities is also climbing.

I think people here are starting to get how really serious this is. I know three people that died from this and yes they were old and had some other conditions but nothing that would kill them from a simple cold. I saw the lax in attitude then a major spike. It became real very fast. At this point all I can do is rely on medical experts and scientists. Try to make wise choices to protect the ones around me. Facts from BS....

I heard a party going on just a block away in my neighborhood yesterday. Music, young people laughing. Meanwhile, our hospital is just hovering under full capacity and we have had to cancel surgeries, which effects the $$$ of my coworkers. Thanks, jerks.

Deaths lag behind infections because many people who become seriously ill and eventually die donít die for a while after becoming infected.
