I have recently come into a gross of 7 Sachs 8 speed freewheels and now will share the French 8 speed love. These look to be unused except for 2 which have signs of light use. A representative pic is posted of a new-looking one and the lightly used one. Individual pics will be sent to those interested in a specific one.

They all have brown spacers, which I understand denotes Campy compatibility and FWIW, they are the same color as the spacers on my awesome shifting Sachs 7 speed LY 99 - Campy Athena group.

I will clean up the used ones before shipping. I can't think of any specific needs right now but also open to trades for Campy bits, 12-ish cm stems, shallow drop 40 cm bars, DeRosa or Merckx frames.

Forgive my ignorance, but by referencing brown spacers are you suggesting that they may index with campy 8s indexed shifters such as Ergos? Also, you mention French goodness, are you also implying French threading?

By "French goodness" I really meant the good things of France such as Cotes Du Rhone wine, camembert cheese, tartiflette. I assume the threading on these is English (French thread freewheels still a thing in the '90's?) but I can test one on one of my wheels later today.

I don't have personal experience with these, my only 8 speed set up uses a free hub. My internet search leads me to believe brown spacers are for Campy, black spacers for Shimano. FWIW, I do have a 7 speed Sachs LY 99 freewheel with brown spacers on my Bianchi with Athena/Synchro II and it shifts flawlessly. I just took some measurements with my analog calipers this AM.

Cog width 1.8 mm at the tooth, 2.0 mm at the base
Spacer 3.3 mm, although one spacer has a different look to it measured 3.2 mm
The third cog thread on measures 5.5 outside to outside.
Total width is 39.9. I'm not sure how Sheldon measured this but the most optimistic I could get was 36.5 mm which excludes the base of the freewheel body. IMO These numbers most closely match the Campy numbers from Sheldon. hope this helps.

Used a bottom bracket cup to check - thanks to Sixty-Five who mentioned this in an old thread. Glad I didn't have to wrestle with a freewheel removal today - 3 flats and lost a water bottle on my ride.

Any idea if these 8 speed freewheels are compatible with 9-speed ergo shifters?

No practical experience with this. According to the Sheldon crib sheet 4.55 mm spacing for Campy 9 vs 5.0 for the Sachs. My guess is it would be problematic. Maybe others can chime in.
