Maybe I should post it on the "Ebay/CL" thread. If someone is interested, I could facilitate.

Hi All ...
I finished this ‘88 (sn #56022488076) SR700 BL in November and have been enjoying the heck out it ever since. It runs like a two wheel rocket, and I’ve wondered why it is so much more responsive than the ‘98 and ‘13 I’ve got.
So, I’m catching up on this thread and the light bulb begin to glow. That’s what the criterium decal meant! ... I’ve got a criterium frame! ...
I can now declare myself the fastest 75 year old in my neighborhood ...

I've been casually looking out for a 60cm for a while, but I would want to run a modern drivetrain on it.
Does anyone know what year/model Cannondale went to 130mm spacing in the rear?

Probably ~1990. My '88 Crit Series has the old (126mm?) spacing, And I have been running 130 mm spacing for the past 30 years on it, with no ill effects. It's actually really easy to (temporarily) spread the dropouts a few extra mm, much easier than a lot of steel bikes I own.

I’m on the 7th season with this hardcore delight. This summer I will be doing more miles than previous years. My max with this Criterium Series is 65 miles. Endurance isn’t my thing but base miles are necessary. What a phenomenal bike.

After 7 years of great road performance, the Criterium Series gets a well deserved freshening up. The Vuelta Corsa Lite wheelset has been amazing and will have a new 7sp cassette on it. New bar tape, brake pads, chain and cable work. I’m looking forward to riding this beast again in 2 months.

I had a Criterium 3.0 back in ‘89 through about ‘98 in addition to other bikes at the time.
The criterium is aptly named. Great handling bike, and stiff as hell for those sprints. However, I found it to be torturous for anything else. It would beat me to death on long road rides.
I mostly rode mine at night in well-lit business parks, 1-2 mile circuit loop - charging hard, hanging fast corners, sprinting out.... rinse, repeat. Fun times

No doubt they can be brutal on long rides with poor roads, not to mention the aluminum fork this has. Longest ride for me on this bike was a few years back at 61 miles. The many hills and steep climbs here makes it a thrilling ride. I’ve since swapped in a 50/34 crankset to help with climbs.

Exactly. I think most will comment on the vibration or road buzz. Yet nothing feels as smooth as when you ride fresh asphalt. That’s a whole nuther kind of smooth.

The ‘88 Cannondale Criterium series refit is finished. I took time to give the Black Gold lacquer a 3 stage shine and it looks great. The close up doesn’t show the bigger picture but suffice to say it looks every bit as nice as the day I applied and finished it (lacquer takes work).

On the 9th season and still loving this ride. When you find a perfect fit to your riding style, body type, nothing else can compare. Looking forward to blazing up the fog line.

OldsCool You have kept this Cannondale thread going for a long time. As a bike flipper for many years I had many Cannondale bikes. Cad 3 was my choice for many years but as i got older i had to look for smaller frames. I always liked the late 1980’s so i have been back on a 1988 and 1992 for several years know. I see you mentioned changing to a 50-34 and i am going that way as the 52-42 is to big for my old legs. I am 82 so little hills are now big hills to my old body. For my type of riding Cannondale bikes always seem to feel more responsive.

I am hoping to have another entry very soon after several years devoid of a vintage Cannondale in my stable. Working on some fork and steerer issues right now, but after that it should be a breeze to build.

Looking forward to what RoS brings to the table here, as noted above.
Here is my entry.
1989 66cm
repainted burgandy/maroon at some point
steel replacement fork
DA 7700 rd, hubs, and shifters
7400 fd
Mavic headset and brakes
Control Tech post and stem
For the most part equipped as I received it. I finally got handlebars that will replace these wonky things. Probably will change them out rhis fall. It is a good handling bike, and the 7700 stuff works very very well.
