Low profile bike helmet
I haven’t seen this discussed anywhere for a few years now. I am looking for a lower profile bike helmet that doesn’t have that mushroom look. I’m using a Met Manta right now and I’m right in between a medium / large - it’s the worst.
Please, save the “thicker helmets are great for safety etc etc” ... I know that. But I also know there must be safe helmets out there that don’t look like a mushroom.

Met? Park and diamond?
There are a seemingly endless number of legitimate helmet brands, and that doesnt even consider all the amazon/ali brands.
Wild.

Who you trying to impress? You're going to look a bit dorky in any helmet so best to get one based on how it fits and level of protection.
Having said that, I find the Smith helmets look less mushroomy than others. You may think otherwise.

On a side note, I think you can still buy vintage leather helmets. While they don't fold up, I would think they offer similar protection at 30+ mph.

Based on what I've seen locally on people's noggins: Kask, Abus. Bell Formula, Stratus and Z20 have nearly identical low profile, with minimal "fins". Ditto some Giro helmets.
POC road helmets are mushroom head things. I have one. I like it for the superior ventilation in summer.
Some of the recent road/aero helmets, like the Bontrager Ballista and others, have awkward looking rear protrusions. I'd need to be stronger and faster to justify those helmets. I have an older rounded aero helmet that's not too mushroom head looking but it's not available anymore.

I have a MET Trenta which is pretty trim but I went for a size M which is a really snug fit, close to the limit of the adjustment range.
The helmet fit depends on your head shape. The Lazer helmets do look like they'd be pretty trim.

I had an encounter with a car this summer bought a bright orange helmet. Cycling is not the time to be low profile.

As for helmets, a lower profile helmet isn't inherently less visible or less safe than a mushroom shaped helmet.
Suxks you were hit, but your reasoning is questionable here.

Go to some online sites and scroll through their helmets. Only you know what appeals to you.

No brainer, no pun intended.
"This relatively lightweight helmet is our top-rated mountain biking helmet. It’s rated Excellent for impact absorption and comes with anti-concussive technology known as Low Density Layer. There’s a dial to make it easier to adjust the fit and reflective features to improve nighttime visibility. It also comes with a detachable visor."
The Alchemy and Therapy are the same helmet but the former comes with a visor.

I don't get it. No bicycle helmets look like mushrooms. I wish one did, because then it would probably provide effective shade, instead of the sorry excuse for brimmed bicycle helmets that are currently available to us.
