First Commute Today...Kind of

Let's call it a trial run. I did a one way commute today.

For a variety of reasons, I'm a little uneasy about the route I have to take to get to/from work. For those of you who are familar with Aquidneck Island, RI, I'm basically traveling from the northern end of Portsmouth to the northern end of Newport. Unfortuantely, from where I am starting, there is no way to avoid East or West Main Road.

So, I decided to leave my car at work yesterday, get up early today and try a one way commute to work.

It was awesome. My buddy and I were on the road at 0515. Absolutely no issue with traffic during our stints on the main roads. We saw several other cyclists as well as several deer on a very scenic ride to work. Arrived at work in 35 minutes, showered and was at my desk by 0615.

Two regrets. First, my usual thermos was to large for the commute. I was a mess without my caffine, so I definately need to find a smaller thermos. Two, I wish I had cowboyed up and made it a round trip. I'm definately going to make the round trip next week for sure.

Way to go! I've noticed a few minutes one way or the other make a big difference in the traffic I have to deal with, both morning and evening. Deal with the little issues that arise (like the thermos), have fun and be safe!

Whew those roads can be brutal during traffic periods...hometown is Fall River and I've lived in Tiverton...How about using a backpack for your thermos, etc?
Good for you !
