I don't use bar mitts...When it's very cold I layer up by wearing a pair of thin gloves and mittens, this set up has never failed me yet.

Almost needed mine yesterday but lucked out because it snowed! They're out of storage and where I can nab them. Probably won't throw them on till mid 20s if dry, or mid 40s like you if it rains.

haha, wait, what? btw just cuz we use them on one ride, doesn't mean they are on for the season. they're not like snow tires for our cars. if I ride in the rain tonight, I'll keep them on. If I stay in & don't ride again until it's just cold, then I may just take them off & use gloves

Threw them on last night. 25°f, 10mph wind. Worked perfect

We're having quite the artic plunge here, with temps you don't see till January. Being Iowa you don't depend on the temp staying consistent, so of course today it's 42°f, tomorrow the high will be 28°f

Infact tonight the temperature is predicted to drop 10° in about an hour and a half so that's tricky but I've finally gotten some gear that can handle temp swings comfortably.

Weird that close to a year later we're about to experience another Arctic plunge. I've been doing a lot more jogging in anticipation of winter this year, but I still got the Mitts ready to go

They would have been nice this morning. 31 degrees and the old 45Nrth Sturmfist gloves left my fingers numb and tingly.

Tomorrow’s ride will be early afternoon, I should be fine without the mits then but it’ll be soon for me.

My Bar Mitts go on when temps are in single digits or lower.....in fereinheit degrees.
Any warmer and standard mittens do the trick, even with my Raynauds.

I've been using them for at least five years, keeping that wind chill off your hands is more than worth the price of them..usually i can just use thin gloves during the day in very cold weather since the sun does a great job of warming the interior..and of course in wet conditions it's nice to have dry hands to hold in the heat.

was out in the wild for over 2 hrs yesterday & was glad to have them. never rose above 38 degrees & never needed an insulated glove. I warmed up at different times & did a lot of sweating but my hands never got too warm

A little off topic, but there is an approach that shields hands from wind, (and body from face to upper thigh) and incidentally reduces wind resistance as much as a rider in front - a handlebar fairing. Also keeps you far drier over that same area. I used a Zzipper fairing for years. In Ann Arbor, wow! did it help. I loved it when I did a due south 15 mile commute through Seattle in winter. (Storms there come from the south and were a regular feature. 20-30 mph headwinds with rain were a regular feature of my morning ride. (Ballard to well down the Duamish River via Alaska Way for you Seattleits.)

With the fairing, chopper mitts and wool inner mitts work just fine in any weather Ann Arbor can offer up. Those mittens have been my favorites for years for comfort, ease of on and off (on long rides, pulling then off to reach into pockets is easy. so is putting them back on). They have a huge range of temperature. Pull the inners out and ride just the leather into the 70sF. Keeping them clean inside and smelling nice is also easy.

Haven't put them on yet. Trying those AmFIB Lobster gloves now. So far they're working great in keeping my fingers warm and toasty during mid 30's temp rides.

I was thinking of getting better bar mitts this winter, but 2020 has been the year of "out of stock". So I set about addressing the main issue I have with my Rockbros handlebar mitts, specifically that they flop down. I figured always having the top of the mitt resting against the back of my hands was reducing their effectiveness.

I ended up cutting strips from dollar store flexible cutting mats and using outdoor doublesided carpet tape to create internal stiffeners. On the inside bend I went with a 2" wide, 12" long strip which covered the entire length of the bend (I doubled up the inside bend stiffeners but I'm not sure it was necessary). For outside bend I went with nearly a 3" wide, 12" long strip which just reinforces the front of the mitt. I also added an attachment point on top outside to pull the two mitts towards each other to help keep the top raised.

I hadn't used the thin liners that came with the mitts. When I went to put them in yesterday I discovered they gave me 2 right handed ones. I guess that's the QC you get when the price is 1/4 that of the 45Nrth ones.

Some of the carpet tape near the cuff came loose. I'll have to drill some tiny holes in the plastic and sew it at that location instead. I'll probably also add attachment points at the inner bend to pull the mitts inward a bit.

Below are Red Fox thermal gloves, and Red Fox fleece gloves on top. It was hot, I took away my thermal gloves, I was riding in fleece.

thought about barmitts this morning but knew I'd be fine w/ gloves w/ temps in the 30s w/ little to no wind or precipitation

also remembered that when the barmitts go on, the bar ends come off! so I made sure to enjoy them today

I need a drop bar set -- or maybe it's time I get the MTB going after a year and a half of neglect! Going to be very nice this week, temps well above freezing.

Somewhere about 20 degrees. When I went out to ride yesterday morning, weather app said i was 25, my Wahoo said i was 22 °F. I rode with my Pearl Izumi lobster claws, glove liners, and Hot Hands and had no problem with cold fingers.

The bar mitts are great for cold weather, but there is a price for variations in hand position and for getting the hands out quickly in emergencies, etc. So I don't look forward to them. I'll appreciate them soon, though.
