Are you riding more or less during the Covid 19 outbreak?

Lots of folks have been sent home. (And lots of folks have not.) Lots of bike clubs have cancelled group rides. (And lots of clubs have not.) How is the Covid 19 scare impacting your mileage? More? Less? About the same?

Less, but mostly because I got in a fair bit of riding when my kids were either in school or participating in extracurriculars.

Single dude working from home. Weekend riding hasn’t changed. Have slightly more time on the weekdays now and I bought a kickr because I 100% anticipate a full lockdown

More. I'm not going to work, the roads are empty, the weather is getting good, and I have a lot more anxiety to manage. Just miss the group thrashes.

Given I also bruised my ribs and can't run and obviously also can't swim... I've never been fitter on the bike. Also my trainer is crying.

Less. Much less. My agency/position has been deemed essential and we've been scrambling to figure things out. I go to the office and straight home. If I have the energy, I try to get on Zwift, but that's been rare.

Same rides, distance, etc. I'm retired so the Super Cooties Apocalypse hasn't changed anything.

I've avoided group rides for months anyway. Between an auto-immune disorder and chronic respiratory inflammation with elevated monocytes, I'm a lot more cautious. I'm not just worried about catching the Super Cooties, but I don't want to risk infecting anyone else. Between allergies, asthma and chronic respiratory inflammation I'm a snot machine. I spit and blow snot-rockets so much I'm on the verge of getting dehydrated.

But I am taking it a lot easier. No HIIT for now. I ride according to heart rate. At 62 I have to make some concessions to capability. I set my computer alarm to sound when I exceed 160 bpm. When I hit that, I ease up regardless of whether I'm on the verge of setting a new PR and cracking the top ten for that Strava segment, or feeling so sluggish I'm being passed by grannies on walkers and kids on Big Wheels.

I'll resume more serious workouts later in the year, depending on how things go with the pandemic.

Why not ride your bike?

In terms of the OP, I was just ramping up my mileage again anyway, so the fact that I've ridden more miles than I had done recently just as the virus hit the fan may just be a coincidence, but it's happening.

Ski season got shut down from Covid, so I set the bike up for the warmer weather that started coming anyway. Also helps that the roads are a bit quieter, and cycling is a bit more enjoyable than running. So my cycling miles have been higher than usual.

I try to go for a short ride (15 miles) before leaving for work but had to get up before 4 AM to do that and could only manage it 2-3 days a week. Working from home I can do the same ride or longer at 5AM so am doing it daily. Weekend riding hasn't changed so slightly more miles.

def ramped up the mileage being off work. not my favorite time of year and here, in socal, it's been intermittent rain and wind for the
better part of the month. done some rain rides. done some wind rides. done some rain + wind rides. Have some applicable clothing
but not nearly enough since march is shaping up to be my biggest month of the year. usually, it's somewhere between july and november.
gotta get out while i can so been doing lots of clothing hand washing and line/indoors drying.

Not riding at all. In Spain they are managing the crisis like sh**. Not only they have managed to expand the virus over the whole country, they have also banned exercising outdoors.

They're a bunch of assh****.

Somewhat more. Since I am working at home and no longer have the commute time I've been getting out more during the week.
Plus the weather has been warmer this year and winter shorter so that helps too (Massachusetts). What has struck me is how many people especially families are now out walking, riding and just generally getting outdoors.

I zig while the masses zag.

That means staying in when the crazies are out, and cautiously venturing out when its quiet.

Minimizing risk is key, one small mistake could end in tragedy, given the current hospital situation.

More. I usually ride solo, so going self contained only means making sure I have enough food/water for however long I'm riding.

I've signed up for a half-dozen charity rides this Spring/Summer and they have all canceled. The weather in Utah still hasn't been consistently warm enough to ride comfortably. As soon as it will get above 60, I'll be out the 5 or 6 days a week.

Same - not much at this time of year because of winter that left snow that's still not all melted.

I plan on starting my 2020 season solo in the next upcoming weeks (that, if we're not put on full lockdown.)

Maybe a little less, but doing more indoor intensity, which has been fun. I normally do long outdoor rides, and thus have to keep the midweek intensity down. Outdoor rides are more limited now, due to all the local public restrooms being closed. There are some routes with well-located convenience stores which are still open, but not my faves.

My city is shut down. I am working from home. At work I have a gym, and at home I do not. Socially distanced biking is my only exercise, and one of few opportunities to get outside.

About the same but always on my own now.

Tomorrow is the last day of Q1 and I need to do 50km to be bang on target with my annual target (a modest 6000km).
