Ripped a wire on my American Flyer ebike (near the derailleur) HELP!

I was putting in a new tire and tube on my American flyer ebike, all went well until I went for a ride. I noticed a wire was ripped looks like it is coming from a black box type thing near the derailleur. The throttle work but when I go to pedal (with pedal assist) it does not go to top speed.
is this something I can fix myself, maybe order a new piece online or am I going to have to take it to the shop?

What make & model of bike ? That might help others identify more specifics about your components.

No way for anyone to know how severe the damage is without at least a photo. If you can fix it also depends on your mechanical/electrical skills. Also you may have better luck posting in the "Electric Bikes" section as someone may have more knowledge of that particular motor and how to fix it.
