Trying hard to see past the chrome (!) : Are those brake levers Weinmann? And is that drillium from factory, or DIY? I don't think I've ever seen ones like that before, with different-sized holes and all.

Those were with the Falcon I bought a few years ago. I’m polishing up a set of Record levers for this build but since those were already on the bars they’ll do for now.

I never examined them closely but looking at this photo it does look like someone’s very patient handiwork:

@noglider dusted off one of his fleet and met me for the 31-mile loop around the Ashokan Reservoir. The Paramount performed pretty much perfectly. I like the comfort and handling, it’s not as frisky as my Mercian Pro but it’s no slacker, it has a great balance of comfort and responsiveness. I think I’ll keep it!

Actually, I didn't dust it off; I left all that dust and grime on it, but it rode just fine.

Too much patience and too much handiwork IMO, that's a lot of holes.

I have broken a couple of factory lightened weinmann levers without even trying, don't think I would trust those very much.

I didn’t shoot the bike yesterday, so here is a picture from a couple of years ago. It hasn’t changed much since then.

I think it's a cool story. I joined BF at least 15 years ago and mostly lurked in the 'Love of 3-Speed' thread for a few years before getting active in 2014. By then I was aware of many of the regulars including Tom and the distinctive mustache he wore at the time. From his posts I kind of knew that he'd left the suburbs for Manhattan, which I did that year too.
Once settled in our new place I walked over to the local bike shop to check out the scene, and who would emerge from the back rocking his handlebar 'stache and a a shop apron but Tom, saying "May I help you?"
I said: "Tom!" and he gave me the side-eye because he had no idea who I was. We'd just exchanged messages or posts on C&V, maybe even the night before, so I introduced myself and the rest as they say is history.

Andy,
Looking at your need for more rear range, might I suggest you watch the Gold Mine sales area. Coming soon:

This should cover anything you throw at it, and is '72 appropriate, maybe even a Paramount take off.

Rallye? Dunno about that but I’ll keep my eye out. I slipped a wheel with a 14-34 on it and the NR handled it well. Pastor Bob is putting a couple of freewheels together for me.
