Ride - 7 miles
What did you wear - 2 old cotton work shorts, long sleeve, EMS Thermo 1/4 zip, Pearl Izumi long sleeve jersey, EMS Midweight thermal tights, Levi’s 511 commuters, midweight wool hiking socks, cotton socks on top, LL Bean Cresta hiking boots, 2 pairs gloves, thin balaclava with another face mask on top.
How did it work out - Most comfortable ride I’ve had in the cold. EMS thermals are nice. I had the Outdoor Research Omni mittens for a few days, but they do their job a little too well, causing my hands to sweat (that was the other day where temp with windchill was -9). Waiting for new mittens to arrive, Dakine Baron Gore-Tex. Hit a few icy patches as well, loving the Schwalbe Marathon winters.

FWIW added a thin fleece vest to my setup last night & it was just the right addition. I think someone said, protect the core & you protect the hands, etc?

Friday early morning commute. Temperature was minus -12 Celsius (10 F). This is what I wore:
- Keen Targhee winter high boots
- one pair of wool socks
- polyester long johns ( waffle knit fabric)
- cargo pants made from 100% cotton
- tight fitting polyester wicking t shirt
- Under Armour Cold Gear 1/4 zip jersey
- Adidas fleece hoody
- Shirt-jacket made from cotton canvas with thin polyester insulation.
- balaclava with hoody pulled over it
- glove liners
- mittens
I was very warm and comfortable, very little sweating. Had to stand outside and wait for about 20 minutes after I got to work.

Ride - 19 miles, mostly snow covered roads, in just under two hours. Two small climbs, otherwise mostly flat.
What did you wear? Nothing cycling specific
Hands got a bit sweaty, feet got a bit uncomfortable (but nothing bad). The wool did its moisture wicking job, so I did not get too wet. I should have worn cycling shorts under the rest of the getup.
Weather - +6-10F, sunny and into sunset, north wind ~6MPH
Ride - 19 miles, mostly snow covered roads, in just under two hours. Two small climbs, otherwise mostly flat.

- Head: Merino balaclava, snowboard helmet, ski goggles
- Upper: Thin merino base layer, fairly light merino sweater, Mammut Ultimate Hoody
- Lower: Thin poly long underwear, fleece long underwear, random leggings
- Feet: REI Expedition socks (really thick merino), winter boots (clips and straps on pedals)
- Hands: Dakine Sequoia gloves, with the included liner

Ride: 15.1 miles, mostly snow covered roads with a bunch of dirt on hills...sloooow traveling.
What did you wear?
Same as last time, but added:
- Cycling shorts! under the three other leg layers.
- Showers Pass Club Convertible pants, just the top portion, over the other leg layers
- Bonus wool face cover thing made from old socks, over the balaclava
- Cycling jersey over the merino sweaters (club fit obviously), mainly to have pockets for emergency stuff (foot warmers, plastic bags, lighter, dry glove liners)

Here is the Sock Face Thing. This was originally intended as a solution to fogging goggles (the top part was sewn rolled over, which prevents some of the hot air traveling upward). Literally sewn from the leg part of old wool socks.
1st picture: The Sock Face Thing.
2nd picture: Demo - over thin merino balaclava. It will eventually get shoved up under the goggles - no exposed skin!

I've using this. PNW is not that cold, but in December early morning it got to around 25F.
One long sleeve T under it would do it even on the cold. When it is 35F-ish, my arms are all sweaty after 10 mi commute in the morning,

no pit zips? any back vent? I tried one of their jackets last year but despite getting the largest size available I could not wear it in public. glad it works for you! maybe if I lost 25 lbs from my belly I'd try it again

I'm small frame, 5'5" 140lbs. I got an US/EU M size and is very roomy for me. No back vent, but normally I unzip pretty much all way down and gets cool. The arms get sweaty the most.
