Braking surface cleaning?

My Tourist pulls a trailer and I do not have near the braking power I used to have. I just replaced pads. What solution would I use to clean the braking surface on the rims? Thanks!

For aluminum rims I use a green ScotchBrite pad and alchohol.

What pads did you install? Kool Stop salmon pads really work well to restore the brake feel you like.

I think that's what I have, Kool Stops. They're red, right?

I just went out and gave the brakes a once over, made a few small adjustments. Rear brakes were replaced and work fine (without the trailer, going downhill.... in the rain). Front brakes are original, but I have a few new pads somewhere...

I use automotive brake cleaner & a rag, but it's always in stock in my garage and at work.
