Not a bad price considering it comes with the custom wood stand made with distressed wood.
Best, Ben

A more recent Trek for $300 seemed decent, but small details about the post made it slightly unsettling. Did they get "alfalfa" from the Alpha aluminum frame? "frame size: 56 you don't know how" No mention of the missing seat?

Trek alfalfa 2.3 road bike - $300 (Como Park, MN)

Trek alfalfa 2.3 56 cm 700 rims back rim campanero

bicycle frame material: aluminum
bicycle type: road
condition: like new
frame size: 56 you don't know how
make / manufacturer: Alfalfa 2.3 1990
wheel size: 700C

@Drillium Dude complained about no tires for $1200. Here's maybe no wheels for $1500. No 50s-60s Campagnolo parts that I can see either. OTOH, you do get turkey levers. And, on the plus side, the one pic in the listing is from the drive side.

Seller has dropped the price by $300. Smoked chrome is replaced by a reference to paint. Maybe he saw our yammerings about it--new price seems much more reasonable. Subtract component prices and end up with a gorgeous frame, fork, and headset for the price of a nice similar-era Paramount frameset ($600-700-ish range). Someone with more A-D knowledge can tell us how rare and desirable these Ultimas are, but I have a hunch that they are, like anything else similar, quite nice.

Well, time to pick up a couple of spare tubes. I've been running 700c tubes in my 451 tires.

So, I bumped into this page:

Continental Compact 20 Bicycle Inner Tube - Black, 32/47-406/451 by Continental
by Continental

Price: $31.07 + $4.99 shipping

It might be ok if I got 10 tubes for that price, but I think it is $31.07 for ONE tube.

Selling Bike $1000

Selling Bike $1000
"
Roommate bought a bike, used for about a month and a half. Selling because it's been sitting unused for 2 months."

Nice looking Le Tour(?), but overpriced by at least $750

I wrote to him. While he appreciated my input, he tried to downplay the issues I brought up. I guess when I suggested he should do a bit of research and then list at a more realistic price, he decided lowering the price by 25% would do it. He came across as trying to play it up beyond what it is.

It's nice, but it's nothing more than a $300 bike in most markets.

Drillium Dude,
Those are some old boats in the unlimited category, but boy were they fun! Those old Allisons were a blast to hear running! The new T-55 Lycomings are quieter but do create more speed. Not the same without the roar of the piston power. Smiles, MH

Thank you for the added context and follow up. His ad copy was lifted from a different website. Perhaps to an unsuspecting person--linking "a fine manganese molybendum" to a Jaguar E-Type, all why not saying that the "fine" material is actually Reynolds 531--the description sounds mythical and alluring, but this elevation-by-association is eye-roll-inducing in its try-hard attempt. It's DB 531 at a very high level, anybody who knows bikes to even a moderate degree knows that 531's reputation precedes itself. More knowledgeable bike enthusiasts will know A-D, and likely the Ultima and its place in the hierarchy.

Not to mention this gem in the ad: "Seat pillar is bent, but that is the norm rather than exception with this diameter tubing."

This bike's been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet ... a pawn and a king
It's been up and down and over and out ... and I know one thing
Each time it finds itself flat its on face
It picks itself up and gets back in the race ...

Well, if you say so!
Well, yes that's the norm when you use a long and cheap thin wall seat post with a foot sticking out of the seat tube and you weigh more than the average 10 year old. At over 6 Ft, tall and 230 Lbs. I bent 2 fairly expensive BMX posts on my Columbia Clipper before I finally found a long BMX post that wouldn't bend. Unfortunately his statement ,"Replacement pillars are <$10." while possibly true for the cheap ones he used doesn't include the ones that won't bend under those conditions. They're made of solid 4130 CrMo bar stock, they're heavy and they're more like $45 but they definitely will not bend.
