Bikes: 1949 Bates BAR, a 1955/56 Holdsworth Typhoon, and I'm now starting work on what I think is an 1981 Raleigh Track Pro!

A Curious Raleigh Track Professional? Or Team? Help!

Hey, I'm new to the forum, and I really need some help. I'm UK Based and I've recently acquired a 54cm Raleigh Track Frame and forks with the serial no WB100048, with the lovely Zeus 2001 forks, which have the Campag dropouts. But the frame also has the Drilled Campag track ends at the rear. It's super light and tight.

Unfortunately, in the past it's been repainted badly in white, but at least it has preserved the frame. I just wondered if anyone could tell me if this is a Team frame or a Pro? I've done my research and I know it's a Notts made frame hence the 'W' and the 'B' means Feb? and the '1' is either 71' or 81'? But is it just a professional or a team? Now I've finished restoring my 49' Bates BAR, I'm starting the resto on this, and I want to know what colours etc?

If anyone could help a newbie, I'd really appreciate it, and if I can help with any Bates info, then I'm super willing to exchange some (fairly limited) knowledge!

Thankyou

Raleigh Pro Track frames had drilled rear ends from about 1974 to at least 1976. After That the local Raleigh Distributor no longer carried them.
A version of candy red with a white head tube and two white seat tube panels bordering an opaque blue one.

Most, but not all had an italic CC in block letter form as a bottom bracket cutout.

So do you think the frame set is a Pro rather than a team? It doesn't have the CC BB cutout, as I've seen on many others. I will try get some pics up tomo. Thanks so much for all your help.

regarding the first 3 alphabet/digit in the serial number, IIRC:

W: Worksop, not Nottingham. most likely, therefore, made out of 753 or 531
B: the 2nd fortnight, so possibly in Jan not in Feb
1: '71 or '81 (as Kurt ruled it out as '81 in this case)

hope this helps.

Hi Kurt,

Thanks so much. The only reason I was questioning it, was that the only other ones I had seen with the Zeus forks and drilled rear ends were the US spec ones, with the black rear triangle and red front. I love the look of those ones. Did most of the UK ones have the chromed front and rear fork/stays, and why the Zeus forks? Sorry if it's too many questions!

So would mine have originally looked something like this? but with the yellow headtube? Mine doesn't have the BB cut outs.

Thanks Orangeology. You guys are super helpful. It is really light, certainly lighter than my 531 Bates, so could be 753?

When I go to have the bike repainted, is there certain coulours that I should be aware of, as the closest matches?
