Is acetone spilled a little at a time on a rag, then rubbed like mad on the frame considered "normal practice"???
Yes. You'll need lots of Acetone, and lots of rags/towels. Just don't SOAK the frame in Acetone; or do this: Recycling a carbon fibre reinforced polymer with a supercritical acetone/water solvent mixture.
The link gives you an idea about how tough the epoxy is. Those conditions will be difficult to recreate, and outside of a containment vessel, any acetone you use will evaporate before it can do much of anything to the Epoxy. Hopefully, the bike frame wasn't properly prepped, and the spray enamel should come off before you damage a clear coat too much.

Unca Sam,
The paint stripper is a bad idea for cf. It will cause the matrix to break down and failure is almost a given at some point in time. CF is pretty tough as long as there are no scars or cuts in it. Finishes can be sanded off with 400/600/1000 grit papers with care being taken to just remove the paint layers. Tedious and time consuming but will allow for a good repaint. After all of the sanding a quick wipe down with acetone to clean off oils and debris and it will be ready to paint. Smiles,MH

I have a sure-fire method for removing a stuck stem mechanically that has yet to damage anything else. But $300 still seems high for that, considering the inherent risk

I posted another one a page or three back. Unusual to find two so closely back to back. Yours is a bit better priced, but the one I posted was complete and mostly original IIRC.

And on the Frenchie note, I've been eyeballing this, had deja vu when I first saw it but can't quite put my finger on why, maybe it was already listed in the past. Either way, it's pretty nice. It's totally my size but unless some freaking amazing human being is buying it for me, it ain't gonna land in my stable. Someone should buy it though!!

Actor Anthony LaPaglia is peddling a nice auction lot of classic lightweights this April 18, 2020.

Here's pics and info.
https://www.copakeauction.com/auctio...on-2020-04-18/

Amazing offerings but one can't help notice the set-ups and many with thrashed cables. Various sized frames and looks like he rode some of the larger than his normal fitted.

Like New Schwinn Paramount 50 cm - $650 (Seattle)

Absolutely pristine 1987 USA made Schwinn Paramount. It's 50 cm or a hair smaller, metallic pink, and perfect. This is not the Japanese made Paramount (though those are also nice), it is the top-of-the-line Waterford made Paramount. On top of that, its new enough to have reasonably modern components . Save for a couple faint marks you wouldn't think this has ever been ridden. Look on EBAY, these regularly go for $1000+ and rival new bikes.

Cinella stem handlebars
Mavic Open 4 ceramic rims
New continental tires
DURA ACE drive train
DURA ACE brakes
Clip in pedals (not pictured)

https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/b...071882903.html

I'll be honest, as someone who's still kicking myself over not buying a cheap metallic pink "Magila Rosa Edition" Bianchi CdI a few years back, I kind of fancy this... if it were 52cm.

I've got two panniers, a handlebar bag, and low-rider fork mounts on my Trek. I just need a low-rider rack and I'll be all set for a credit card tour or maybe some light camping.

Someday...

Nothing fancy, but two mixtes, a Schwinn LeTour in 22" (pretty unusual, if you've ever tried to find one) and a smaller Nishiki. And don't tell me the Schwinn is not a true "mixte" frame.

Well its not a "mixte" according to the French who invented them, its a "Sport" sport.

Been through this already days ago in the Dura thread. See post #13 .
https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...ura-mixte.html

And I'll take the opportunity to say here what I did not say there; "Sport" is a pretty lame label for this style, practically begging for a Who's On First exchange when discussing it:
"It's a Paris-Sport Sport."
"Sport sport?"
"Yes."
"No."

As a newbie, I prefer your interpretation of the frame style as "Mixte".
We have one of each "variant" as defined by Sheldon Brown. Sheldon Brown's Glossary
It is much cleared to me that three sets of stays behind the seat tube would define the Mixte.
Much easier to search for instead of "Sport sport"

So while not disagreeing, and lame or no, its what they came up with and what it is.
