Garmin Edge 500 Purchase

I'm interested in buying a Garmin Edge 500. How much do they generally go for if they're on sale? Are there any similar GPS units you can recommend for around the same price?

Good unit, I've had close to 18 months of relatively flawless performance. Unfortunately you are approaching the beginning of riding season in most parts of the country and retail (and online) prices are starting to reflect that. I am seeing the 500 and the 500 bundle at prices very close to msrp - no deals going on at the moment. Too bad because there were many discounted prices just a few weeks/months ago. You can expect the 500 to sell for $250 for the head unit, $350 for the bundle with HR and cadence, although PBK does have it for $295 (0 in stock). Of course you can go the ebay route, but then it's not covered under Garmin's warranty. Hold out and search around, you might find a better deal in the coming weeks. I paid $300 for mine, right after it came out.

Alternative would be a Garmin 305. I used mine for over 2 years (still do), but it really doesn't compare to the 500. I think you can find these at pretty steep discounts.

Ah. That's too bad. Do you happen to remember how much they were going for? I think I recall Performance selling them for around $150 (w/o bundle). Doubt I can hold out for that price, but anything less than MSRP would definitely be nice. Given that this unit has been out for some time, is it possible that Garmin will be replacing this unit soon?

Click on the PBK link in my post - $295 is the price for the 500, you can choose to be notified by email when they get more in stock. As far as the 305 pricing goes, I have heard of them going for as low as $138 on ebay. You just need to google and look, or you can go to qbike periodically and check, but it doesn't include any of the UK sites.

500 is still relatively new, don't think they are going to replace it anytime soon - I would guess next year or year and a half out. As to how much longer they are going to sell the 305, it's anybody's guess, but you would be foolish to pay anywhere near retail for the 305, it's just not as nice as the 500.

I got the 305 and I'm happy with it. Here read a reveiw. https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2007/11/r...unner-305.html Here is a link in the reveiw to Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CSWCQA?...08ZH443XFE457V& You can get the GSC 10 Speed/Cadence sensor as well. These were safe to purchase when I did it in January. Just check the seller info to be sure because some of these seller seem shady.
