Bicycle for Madison
Bicycle for Madison
I thought some of you would b interested in this fundraiser. My sister-in-law's aunt sent me the link over facebook.
We have a family of 5 children and would love nothing more then for all of us to be able to take a bicycle ride together as a family. Madison is a child with Autism, which prevents her from being able to ride a normal bicycle on her own. All too often, we have to explain to the other kids, we cannot go on a bike ride together, because someone has to stay behind with Madison. Her brothers and sisters (ages 14, 12, 9 and 6) are very patient and understanding when it comes to Madison, however it is heartbreaking to always have to say no when it comes to something they all love to do so much.
We recently learned about this bicycle called the Buddy Bike, built by Buddy Bike LLC out of Miami, Florida. It is built in such a way, that children with special needs, such as Madison, could ride along with an adult. Unlike other bike seat adapters, this is not something that is added to the back of the bicycle that could allow Madison to jump off and run away. Instead it is built in such a way that the younger rider sits in front of the adult rider. The best part about this bicycle is that it is designed grow as she does. She will continue to be able to ride this as a teen and adult. There are parents all over the world who are finding this bicycle to be perfect for those with special needs children. You can read more about these bicycles at https://www.buddybike.com
With technology and design such as this, comes the cost. The basic family bicycle costs around $2500 used, which includes tax, fees and shipping. An expense that our family cannot currently afford to provide. We would like nothing more then to be able to offer this experience to Madison, subsequently the entire family, to just be able to take a bicycle ride together. As a family.
If you find it in your hearts to perhaps help us achieve this milestone, we would be forever grateful.
