Touring is the Ultimate
You are absolutely right, touring is the ultimate. All those training and get in shape rides are all made to prepare for touring. Of course you don't really have to be in shape to tour when you start but, you will be in shape when you finish. Yes, I was one of the foolish, although if I had had time I would have gotten in shape before I left. I was up to 34 miles, once a week before riding from Oregon down to San Francisco. Down the Pacific Coast is a dream of a lifetime. Later I rode with a friend, motel riding, from Santa Barbara to San Diego. See some of my pics below. It's the type of thing you drop everything, except the wife and kids, for. There is no better way to get close to God and get your mind cleared out. It is worth all the time and trouble.
