It's Time! The Annual Mileage (and/or Pissing Contest) Thread

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I’ll be just a tad over 3300 by the end of the year, which is 1700 short of my goal. Work really got in the way this year

Strava says 8482.6. Had a maybe another 100 in missed recordings and I’ll do a couple more rides before the new year.

Only 1750 due to a cold went spring, and the stupid virus shutting down all the restrooms in the parks.

What are these things you call "restrooms"? I just look for a nice tree.

Yeah, I considered that. But you gotta deal with that particular bit of business before heading out on a long ride.

Mileage is a horrible metric. I’ll finish the year around 4200 miles. First part of the year, in Florida, I was on a pace over 7500. With the pandemic and remote work, we decamped to Western NC.

So shorter road rides with lots of climbing and gravel rides and more mountain biking, and some trainer time when it was too cold to ride outside with my thinned fl blood. Same time and effort in Florida and my mileage would be much higher.

Time and intensity are much better metrics

Got a power meter? What’s your TSS for the year?

I do have several power meters, on different bikes. And when I was competing I could tell you that number. Now I pretty much don’t care.

I’m pretty sure though my TSS from long mileage rides on flats in Florida is not higher than from shorter miles with more climbing in NC

1540 miles. Started riding again in mid may after my deployment and kept a steady pace until November and December when work finally caught up and only allowed a couple rides over a seven week period. Hopefully I can get closer to 4000 next year.

I like Veloviewer's year-end detail, but posting a huge picture celebrating me seems a bit obnoxious. So plain old Strava screen grab.

Time and intensity are only better metrics if you're trying to measure, well, time and intensity. Or work. They suck as metrics for distance though. Mileage is a much better metric for measuring distance.

Aw jeez, careful what you wish for, right? or, hindsight is 20/20. Some stupid aphorism. Yeah, I wrote ^^^that last year...not knowing that 2020 would be The Year Of The Plague. No group rides meant no really long rides this past year, and so I only wound up with 5,426 total miles for 2020. So now that's the fewest annual miles I've ridden since I started tallying annual miles. (Not counting that first year when I only started keeping track in June.)

All outdoors, of course.

9989 miles. I probably have well over 10k miles this year, but I got careless with recharging the garmin.

These are my slowest 10k miles though, but about 2700 of those miles are dirty(mountain bike) miles.
