Well can I join this club? Broken patella, not cycling related but surgery next week... screws and Bondo. I'd be happy with only 5 weeks off the bike post-op. Doc tells me to expect a long recovery and a big scar.

Good stories... thanks.

I know a few people that have had knees replaced. They all agree, it was the best thing they did for themselves. I'm amazed at the things people say, that have no direct experience but "know soneone" that didn't need it or didn't do well or made the biggest mistake of their lives.

I just hope I haven't scared anyone. But seriously, the first 2 weeks suck. But things improve after that.

Are you getting a full knee replacement?

Plan on a full year for full recovery. I was ready to go back to work after 5 weeks both times. That first full rotation of the pedals is a breakthrough moment, even for just patella surgeries...

No, I had open reduction, internal fixation... that's what I meant by "screws and Bondo".
Surgery was Friday, Saturday was pretty tough even with Norco. Sunday was much better once I got the swelling down.
I don't know if I'll get another X-ray showing the screws.
Pre-op they asked me if I had any metal body parts and I said "no... but that's the last time I'm going to be able to say that, right?"
Surgeon also told me if I were younger I might have to get the screws replaced at some point, but since I'm old I won't put that much mileage on the rebuilt knee... age has its advantages.
