Does your significant other laugh.......
at you when you dress for your ride? as an over 50 I guess I've lost my boyish body and when I put on my cycling gear my wife chuckles at me, I can hear her lol'ing. a friend of mine gave me a one piece skin suit to use in winter as a base layer and I put it on and modeled it for her and she lol'ed I asked what's so funny and she said I caught her off guard and thought my onesy looked cute.
any of you get this kind of reaction?

I don't ski down hill any longer but when I did, I'd watch the local amateur racers in their skin suits and often enough, got a grin out of it. I give credit to middle aged guys who still charge hard or at least, do the best they can and are having fun. I myself, at nearly 80 y.o., weigh the same as I did in high school more than half a century ago. That weight is just distributed altogether differently.

I would not wear a one piece skin suit for sure and actually wear running pants over my bike shorts in winter. These days I weigh 172 pounds at 56. When I ran my fastest marathon at 31 years old I weighed 180 so I don't know. My weight is down but it is a lot slower.

I don't have a wife, but I'm not too thrilled that the cyclewear industry seems to be phasing out touring shorts (shorts with pockets, a little bit of looseness, and a simple chamois liner inside). The only thing I'm seeing anymore is form fitting lycra/spandex shorts for roadies and ultra baggy shorts for MTBr's (which I'm not), neither having pockets. I've got two more pairs or old touring shorts left to wear out, after that I'll have to think of something else. Currently investigating using roadie shorts and taking a pair of regular walking shorts to use over them when off the bike on multiday rides.

Boy reminds when last year I rode through the winter. I put on my cycling clothes then my tights over it and my wife chuckled. I said what?
She let me out the door and watch me walk down the walk when she heard our next door neighbor say Wooh Sexy! I said Thanks at least someone thinks so.
It just made my wife laugh more, Mostly because my neighbor is a "HE".

My wife is an avid cyclist/roadie. She wouldn't dare laugh.

My husband is an avid cyclist / roadie. We often dress in similar attire when we ride. Why would either of us laugh?

Probably would roll her eyes if she knew I stopped off on the way home for a flight of craft IPA today but, I did pull some shorts on over the iPs and changed my jersey before hitting the brewery (probably still looked odd wearing compression tights).

The only time my wife laughs is when coming in from a rainy MTB single track thrash with mud freckles. She snaps pics and puts it on facebook.

Wife or gf laughing at you? That's nothing. When it's your teen-age daughter laughing at you, it hurts.

I don't care how anyone looks as long as they're trying. After seeing enough sick, dying and dead bodies in my various jobs over the years, pretty much any living, reasonably healthy human body looks beautiful to me. If it can be crammed into spandex and Lycra and saddled up, it's all good.
My first ex- would laugh at anything that didn't revolve around making her the center of attention, including my bike riding... until she tried it and couldn't hack it for a mile wearing her very '70s Jane Fonda style stirrup tights, which she wore only to be cute since she rarely exercised. To this day she'd rather subscribe to one of those infamous cult-like pyramid scheme diet programs than make a tiny effort to get a little exercise. One of many reasons she's an "ex".
At 60 now and weighing 160 lbs, I'm only around 4-5 lbs over my peak condition weight when I was in my 20s. I look lean and mean and I routinely get my skinny butt dropped on hills by doughy guys stuffing spare tires inside their Lycra and spandex, and by women my age and older. I don't care what they look like. I ain't laughing when that happens.
