SRAM X-Sync 1x Rings..SRAM chains?

So I finally, a few years late, for a a variety of reasons (both for the delay and now the swap), have moved my 2016 Diverge from a 2x setup as originally purchased to a 1x. I'm not entirely certain what gearing I will settle into, and I may actually retain the parts for two different 1x setups (both chainrings and cassettes). I am comfortable calculating chain length.

Here's where it gets interesting. It's not a mullet build in the sense of the stuff folks were doing 3-4 years ago. But, the drivetrain is certainly mixed. Due to the SCS hub, I am limited to cassettes that ride on a Shimano HG spline. Sooooo, for now I've got a Shimano cassette on...the crank is a Quarq D1 DUB with an 11-speed X-Sync ring riding on the AXS DZERO PM. The ring is clearly imprinted "SRAM CHAIN ONLY." So here's the question...and I know the opinion answers...is this really true? The Shimano Ultegra chain I put on is lined up to the narrow/wide profile and it shifts fine, and doesn't do funky things that I can tell in the forward cranking orientation...the chain sounds loud on the largest 2 cogs of the cassette (seems the chainline one the next crank is a touch wider than the 2x), and while backpedalling on the smallest cog it "jumps" (discovered while waxing the chain on the stand). Am I missing something?

Manufacturers certainly shipped a ton of 11 speed bikes with KMC chains.

IME, chain drop when back pedaling is a chain line issue or a sticky freehub.

12 speed is where it gets interesting, or silly.

Yeah, this hub will obviate 12 -speed...so not a problem yet, maybe in a year or two when I finally go for a new frame and proper 12x142 rear hub dimension instead of this bonkers Spesh SCS (sort of 12x135mm, but not) mess. Per my other thread, I think there is a chainline issue (based ONLY on eyeballs, not any measurement). Freehub might be a little sticky, this is after all my winter bike and this hub has about 30,000km on it, even with rebuilds (bearings about 10k back and a new pawl kit). Okay, my hunch is probably right that it isn't a chain, thanks for helping me not think I've lost my mind.
