Buried a Friend Saturday
Saturday we had funeral services for a work friend. He was part of the corrections transportation team, Emergency Squad, and Dog Team. About three years my senior, he retired three years ago. In september he had difficulties - memory, balance etc. A brain tumor was found and he started a treatment program and three weeks later he died. It was merciful as he had pain but sudden as we expected a two year bout. I wondered about the whole thing. He was exposed to agent orange in that dustup with the VC about '68. I hope it wasn't that, but we all leave this world of something. I'll miss Bobby. I told his wife he looked like he would pop up and say Hello shorty or hello C O. (Corrections Officer) She gave a knowing grin. Both were his way of saying hi to me and some others. Forgot to mention, after the 21 gun salute and taps I looked and high above was a lone buzzard. My wife winked and said Bobby is laughing at all us down here blubbering and carrying on. Thanks for listening.

Thanks for posting. He sounds like a fine fellow and a good friend you were privileged to know.
Treat death as you would the end of a banquet. You rise from your chair and walk slowly toward the door, thanking your host for a delightful evening filled with beautiful music, warm camaraderie, delicious cuisine, and sparkling conversation.
Nice Sam Adams quote, by the way.

Your friend hasn't gone to far, every time you see a buzzard from now on you'll think of him. Take care, our friend.

Remember your friend as you knew him. Last week I attended the funeral of a girl HS classmate. As I told her daughter, she will always be in my mind as the beautiful blond HS cheerleader that I went to school with.

Sorry for your loss. Each year I become more aware of the burden those of us who are still here carry - more and more of those we love leave us.

Blues Frog, it’s always sorrowful to hear of a loved one’s passing and you have my condolences at this time of their departure from friends and loved ones.
For those with an awareness or even the faintest sincere hope of Creation, it’s commonly acknowledged that a loved one’s departure from this material existence is merely a temporary separation and we shall meet again via the same divine intervention that created this magnificently ordered material universe.
But for those predisposed to believe the universe created itself in all of its magnificent intricacies and unwavering governing principles of motion purely in the absence of all intelligence via the happenstance of an evolutionary process, the death of a loved one yields nothing but a sense of loss forevermore.
You can likely surmise as to which group I feel the sorriest, but such is their prerogative to embrace that which pleases them for whatever reasons, whether they be spiritual or mankind’s perception of that viewed as scientific…

I think the severest wound about growing old is losing one's friends.
Sorry for your loss.
