Monroe doctrine. Teddy's "Carry big stick" insurrection in Panama. US Ambassador to Nicaragua offing political leaders in the 30s. All of our mucking around in Cuba since the mid-19th century. Kermit Roosevelt's (yes, related) orchestrated overthrow of the duly elected secular prime minister of Iran in the 1950s. Arbenz, the CIA, and United Fruit company in Guatemala. The list goes on and on... But you're well read enough that this is probably not surprising.

The pitbull is just laying down on the field while the other dogs run around like fruit loops.

Hey, even Slash playing that stellar ringing guitar riff (arguably the most memorable one of the past 20 years) couldn't save that sorry friggin show.

Now I rarely watch the Super Bowl and all of the theatrics around it reminded me why I stay away. I don't follow American football but was invited to a SB party by the parent's of my daughter's best friend so at least the social aspect was nice. I have nothing against the sport per se, just can't deal with its stop and go action.

I cleaned out my fountain pen and now have the ink stains to show for it.
Sat down and wrote with it for a bit. I love the feeling. It's probably one of my favorite things in the world.
Bonus? I've become better at writing in straight lines on non-ruled paper since I last used this thing in college.

why do you hate 'merika?
Has coddling tendencies.
About the time C. Aguilera sang the National Anthem, I was here.
Around the time of Roethlisberger's intercepted pass, I was here.
At GB's 3rd TD, I was here.
How I feel about the Black Eyed Peas.
No commercial can beat this view.

I'm glad my kids are soccer nuts and only watch football once a year.

I saw a little of the Super (sic) Bowl because it could not be avoided.
My SIL and M/FIL all live in town and my youngest wanted to see it to see the commercials. We happen to have the best TV, so everyone descended on our house. My wife and I did not want to watch, so we made up this story about needing to go out. We ended up at a friends house and the freaking game was on there as well. We visited for a good long time. I asked if there was a college basketball game on (HA!). We spent most of the time talking about other things while the game droned on in the background. That was fine.
After a while we left and tried to find a place to get some food and a drink without being subjected too much to the Super (sic) Bowl. We found a place in downtown Gainesville where my wife got a dreadful margaritas and I got two fingers of Bushmill's in a very wide glass for only $3. I won! The food was OK.
Even after the game was over all of the M/F/S IL's were still at our house. We drove "around the block" and they were still there. Bullets were bitten and we went into our own home to be regaled about what a great game it was and what an awesome half-time show, etc, yadda yadda yadda. I couldn't care less.

The half time show sucked. The commercials sucked.
The game was good.

what I found really odd about the SB social gathering was the die hard fan who knew at what time everything was going to happen before the game; he informed us that Budweiser always has the first commercial. The game did get interesting once the Steelers came back.

I should have gone out, it looked gorgeous out there. I got 2.5 hours on the trainer so it wasn't a waste and I've been enjoying the trainer sessions because they've been really productive since I've been pushing myself more than I usually do. I ordered the Kinetic RM today so I can finally be done with the loud cheap-o trainer I have now.
