This thing was bonkers enough I wanted to learn more. It's a fairly powerful e-bike - that's not very interesting. Everything else about it is strange. It has a really primitive single pivot rear end like you'd see on a MTB from 1995, it doesn't have a brake arm either, it weighs something like 100 lbm, it sometimes comes with a Schlumpf drive, has a monocoque carbon front triangle, it's made in a town in Quebec halfway from Montreal to Quebec City

I'm guessing the brake cable/housing is growing. It started out cut to a perfect length, but it continues to grow, mostly at night. He's tried, but just can't stop it. It's haunted him long enough. He's finally given up and put it up for sale.

I'd buy that in a heartbeat if he wrapped Christmas tree garland around those cables.

This was outed over on the internetBOB list:

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/bik...051189766.html

Wacky, but way cool...

I recently received this beautiful White Horse pedicab. It had never been assembled and came to me in pieces. It had been shipped from Thailand to the States in the 1960's, but had never been put together. Instead, the pedicab, or samlor as they are known in Thailand, had been stored away in a barn in the Sierra foothills where it was recently discovered.

The pedicab is in near pristine condition as the photos should show. As noted, it is new-old stock and has never been put into service. Other than very slight shelf wear the pedicab could pass for new. It's heavy as heck, but runs well enough. The original seat cushion pads were hard as rocks so I've had them replaced. The original upholstery was saved so it still looks authentic in every way. Supposedly, the picture drawn on the seatback is the Thai interpretation of the Golden Gate Bridge of all things.

I have spoken with one of the original importers of the samlors and he noted that a fair number of these were brought in over the course of the late 1960's. Many made their way to the bay area where they were used to start the fledgling pedicab business. If you lived in the area in the 1970's you might even remember them running around the waterfront. Supposedly they were pretty prevalent.

Of all the samlors madein Thailand or pretty much anywhere for that matter, the White Horse Super was the cream of the crop. It featured a teak seat bucket, full chrome frame, vinyl canopy with stowage cover, and a host of extravagant decorations and handpainted scenes. Every inch of the samlor has some form of garishment; we've counted 36 horse embellishments alone. There are also village scenes, floral decorations, and of course, the mermaid, one of the most popular on the bike. All are intact and in fantastic condition with no hints of UV fading or wear. The samlor is simply beautiful and would make an outstanding centerpiece for a restaurant or other business. Or, take your sweetie out for a romantic ride. With some minor modifications the samlor could also be put back into service. The importer noted that common modifications in the day were the lowering of the gear ratio and the addition of a front brake, both to accommodate variations in terrain.

The White Horse samlors sold for a whopping $1,500 back in the 1970's, with a few of the Supers going for up to $8,000 to private collectors. Of all the ones imported, supposedly this one and its sister ship which I'm currently assembling, are the last of the lot, largely because they were stored away and forgotten. With that in mind, it seems that the asking price should be quite a deal, especially since it's now assembled (it took quite a bit of research to begin to understand how it was supposed to go together).

I'm happy to answer questions, offer real-time videos (Facetime) or send more photos. Please call or email if you have interest.

Best wishes,

Coot Callahan

hahhahahaha, weinman brakes suntour shifter, sugino cranks, and malliard hubs. judging from the lugwork, thats a low end '10 speed' frame of dubious origins, and probably made from basic steel tubing.

Modified Tri-bars for going "up" the hill....allows for more aero with lean-back, a bit like highrise on choppers.

hahahaha, from the description, I was expecting an all campy raleigh professional. I had a Mk IV in the mid-to-late 70s, was an awesome bike, Reynolds 751 double butted, just a sweet ride.
