Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I can't believe I already miss this...

I can't believe that I already miss certain things around here. Seems like winter came and users went.

I can't believe I already miss...

...threads about drafting etiquette.

...the "OMG - MY FIRST CENTURY!! WILL I MAKE IT???!!" threads.

...the "OMG - MY FIRST CENTURY RIDE REPORT!!! I DID IT!!!!" threads.

...a couple of pages of new threads every day.

...an active regional area.

...planning rides with other BF'ers.

...threads about doping...

How about it. What do you miss around here since winter struck?

I miss 55/Rad's participation since he became a MOD. Seems to have more or less taken a back seat since his promotion.

He did spot him the other day... in cycling tights no less....

I miss the opportunity to look at all the unread posts and have an explicative pop into my head because I know that I will sit here and read them all....

Well...when Floyd has his hearing, I think we'll get back to active racing talk.

Maybe after Chrsitmas, the "Look at my new bike" threads...

From what I understand Rad's been swamped with work outside of BF's as of late, but he certainly is around.

I'm missing the higher activity level of the summer months too, and certainly could do without some of the winter 'cabin fever' symptoms that tend to spill over onto the boards this time of year. However some regional forums are still quite active, and I wouldn't exactly call any of the forums ghost towns or anything.

I started a thread here in Road Forum yesterday that recieved plenty of responses, the Texas BikeForums jersey order thread in the Southwest Regional forum is plenty active.

But I do miss reading about everyone's weekend rides when I come into the office on Monday morning. Just one thing to look forward to spring for. And till then, I'm sure they'll be plenty of winter upgrade and build threads to occupy our reading time.

Huh? Winter was here? Did I miss it?

It was 50 degrees the other day ... and this is Wisconsin!

I saw at least 6 guys out riding that day.

Cycling is weird, seems like in the offseason everyone starts buying stuff and stressing over whether their handlebar tape matches their man-purse or whatever.

Other sports have people buying gear while they engage in the activity, here it's just everyone locked in their houses polishing new toys.

And, FWIW, I'm just riding through the winter. Looking to have more commuting miles than anything else, it's the only way I get to see sunlight now. All I have to do now is sell my indoor trainer and I'll have all the motivation I need.

Hey Psimet, you could liven things up by showing some pics of that build your in the process of completing..I myself am leaning towards one of those last Flyte frames on ebay too. Got 23 hours to make my final decision.

But enough about me, where are pics of that build??

Me?? I'm gonna just keep posting in all of Hips threads trying to shame him into that Pinnarello

Yes, this is the time of year for bike builds! Get wrenching and post questions about the best bar tape for the new build, BB greasing techniques, etc.

Just finished building the wheels. I will be wearing lots of safety gear when I finally ride them. Still waiting on the crank. Got a good lead in the US, but he won't even have it for another week or so....darn Campy....you'd think they were trying to work the Sony PS3 angle for the Christmas season with their 2007 line....

A thread of the whole build will come when I get close to getting it done. I am trying to take my time...

Heck yeah it has. It was pretty miserable here for the first week or two of December. Same happened last year though. Something tells me Jan and Feb will be brutal.
