For the love of all things smooth...
A good cold beer, a cuban cigar, my wife's legs , ice covering the pond in the winter, the roads that USED to be by my house. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS SMOOTH, why would they repave the roads with chip seal??? WHY WHY WHY!!!???!!!

my neighborhood has a big hill in it.. and it used to be so fun to just glide down with the feeling of pristine perfectly smooth pavement.. then they decided to chip-seal all roads around where i live.. it makes me scared to hit anything over 25, that stuff looks dangerous

Its amazing, its like 2 gears slower, that and its loosening up my dental work. I think all of my local routes have significant stretches of chip seal on them now. Its given me some insight into how difficult it must be to roll at pro pace on pave.

hmmm....
I know it's cheaper, but does chip seal last longer or something? I thought one of the main problems with was the fact that labor was rapidly becoming the overriding factor in the cost of basic road work, not the materials. I mean, someone has to pay for the one guy working, and the three guys standing there with shovels. I could be wrong.
hmm... maybe to keep costs down, they could use chip seal on the road, and good pavement on the shoulders for bikes and pedestrians? It would be less money than all pavement, and make everyone happy.

Wait till you ride where I live where most of the roads are brick. Its very jarring and you can't go over 15 without killing ur butt and back. Oh but the good thing is your always going the same speed as the cars.
