Greetings all! I am reposting so that I can clarify some things about this wonderful oddity. Since this was posted I have been approached by a museum, and have been working with them in hopes of having the bike shipped so many people can enjoy it. Alas it's not be as the costs are too high for it to be trucked across the country. So I've started emailing many of you back. I do want to point out for anyone interested that the Gitane is not a bicycle for exercise or everyday use. It's only a single speed bike and can be quite exhausting to ride for more than a short trip. My kids and I have road in several parades and I've taken them to school or around the block on it (actually easier to ride by yourself). It's super fun so long as you don't overdue it.

1960's Italian built "Gitane Triplet" 3 seater bicycle. Far rarer than any tandem this bicycle became a part of my oddity collection a couple of years ago. As I am now preparing to move it needs to find a new loving home. After purchasing from the previous owner (Who had bought it second hand in the seventies) I did my best to research this rare gem. I came across some period French articles and corresponded with some antique / vintage bike experts. No one was entirely sure what its intended purpose would have been. Some guessed it to have been part of a circus clown act, others thought that it may have been a beach resort rental bike. Regardless of that, I do know that they are extremely rare. Only one other recent sighting in the USA could be found (An Ebay auction from 2006). As you can see by the photos it is an odd bird. Heavy duty rims with drum brakes at both ends. Extra wide tires and a squatty stance. The bike is not perfect and could use some work to bring it back to its former glory or ride it like it is. I am flexible on price, but please be reasonable about it...Thanks!
