You need to open the controller in order to determine what voltage the capacitors will tolerate. Many 48V controllers will accommodate 63V, so a 14s Lithium battery which is 58.8V fully charged (14 X 4.2) works fine. Some 36V controllers won't go much above 42V (10 X 4.2) though.

If the controller is able to take the high voltage, it's still going to try to shut off at 29V per the label on your picture. A true 48V controller would shut off around 40-42V, A 48V battery itself has a safety circuit (or should have one) that will fire somewhere between 35 and 40V, so it should never get to 29V,which would kill it. .
Your battery will last longer if you monitor the voltage and shut it off at 42V, instead of letting the battery shut it self off.

Good points above. Controllers are cheap, batteries are expensive. swap it out for a 48v controller - its not hard.

As above, check the capacitors inside, and just buy a $5 voltage monitor to ensure you don't over discharge your battery.
I've recently gone from 36v to 48v, however my controllers display allows to me edit what votage I'm using, so it still correctly displays battery percentage.
