So....., the project bikes are temporarily on hold.....
Anyone use a bumper bike rack on one of these? There are hitches you can install on these latest MX-5s to use a hitch rack, but a hitch on a sportscar is a bit counterintuitive, I think.....

Nice! Excellent choice. The Japanese have understood Colin Chapman better than most other manufacturers.

Nice... Mazda nailed that color....now you just need a bike rack with a bike painted that color

Beautiful color! I will never fit in a Miata, no matter how hard I try, but I will always like them. NDs are fantastic, and Soul Red is the best color.
As to your dilemma, I was thinking straps, until I saw the Hard Dog Hideaway Hitch on Flyin' Miata (because I know where to go should I ever get a Miata, lol!)
This is a thread with pictures that perfectly illustrates how invisible the system is (you will not even see it there without the 90° stinger), and likewise how easy it would be to install the stinger and be on your way. And for the price, along with no drilling required (they say), that's a win all the way around.
If I had a Miata I would be doing this as the car naturally can't store a two-wheeled steed inside (like my Camaro can).

What about the seasucker racks?? Dont go by these examples...I'm sure you can do better.
1st one's a dubious install:
2nd one's not very mid-life:

Sweet! Good choice on the Miata. And I've been to that shopping center quite a few times for Luckys. lol Nice to see another member from the Peninsula.
Forgot to post my former NA. Daily driver on weekdays, playtoy on weekends. How I miss that car.

Nice wheels! In my early 30's I had an old Triumph Spitfire I loved to tool around in, smaller than the Miata but it was a pure ragtop, no lining or just about any other amenities. Tried out an MX5 a couple of years ago and - nope. I kept bumping my head into the ceiling. Sometimes I miss the old Spit...

Neat ride!
+1 to the Sea sucker. Acquired a single bike unit for an aircooled gen 911 for occasional use. The aftermarket China made clones are nearly identical. Also purchased the thru axle adapter - China aftermarket. Work well but at the trail head it's best to remove to avoid theft.
Soon to pickup a Mini Cooper S Clubman with the dual sunroof. Was told the Sea sucker is ok for it but I'm not so confident. Hitch is also out of the equation and will likely go for a Thule roof rack setup.

Thanks for the suggestions!
I looked into the racks with the suction cups but have been told to avoid putting any weight on top of the rear trunk lid as it is made of aluminum for light weight. A but bummed by that as I was also checking out a rear luggage rack with suction cups to supplement luggage capacity, if needed.
Looks like I might default to the hidden hitch option....

If you're gonna have a mid-life crisis, it might as well be a good one! Very nice choice @Chombi1, very nice.

Beautiful!
I foolishly sold my NC several years ago and have regretted it ever since.
I've had lots of sports cars over the years including a big, numb, and dumb C5 Z06 vette. The Miata was the only car other than my BMW's that I considered a real drivers car. You don't sit in and drive a Miata, you wear it.
Just went through weeks of hunting and soul searching searching on a replacement for my GTI and it came down to another BMW or another Miata.
I chose this....
Could have been just as happy in another Miata....in a different way.

My 2005 NB has seen regular service on our winding F&M roads with an occasional LD road trip over the years, an excellent driver's car.
A new ND hardtop is a good choice.
As far as putting on a bike rack? Uh, No.......

I actually owned a 1955 MGA convertible, given to me by my Dad when I was in highschool (before I was old enough to drive.) I did not really get to drive it, but as we had to sell it before I can drive it, to finance my college. At least I got to do restoration work on it with my Dad before we sold it. Since that time I always dreamed of finally getting my own little sportscar. Took all this time before it happened because life/obligations/responsibilities had always been the priority over everything, never mind all those challenging years of just trying to survive through a few recessions, but cannot be more happy that it finally did....
When I saw this newest Miata RF (Retractable Fastback), it kinda reminded me, shape and size-wise of the Opel GT from the 70's. A car that I always admired because of its timeless good looks.
See the similarities?

I have a hitch mounted Thule rack and it works great.
That Mazda looks great. My first new car was a 1981 Mazda 626. Loved that car, until I totaled it.
