AFAIK, this is an open event, requiring no qualifying marathon time to enter.
This means you will have a huge fraction of runners with >5 hour finish times. No self respecting athlete will ever run a marathon in more than 4 hours. Its not worth entering when it takes so long.
I've talked to many runners on the bike paths that claim to be training for a marathon and admit to never running a 10k, or a timed 10k, so they have no idea how to scale their running times up to 42k.
Over the years I've heard of dilettante runners loading up on tylenol to beat the inevitable wall of pain. It seems that such events bring out the worst in people, not the best.
