Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Thanks for all the pictures! I'm considering a set of the forged version for a frame I'm building up.

I know this is an old thread, but I hadn't seen it before. After reading through the posts I was interested in looking over the Planet-X CNC brakes and went looking for them on both the USA and UK websites. They aren't there. At least I can't find them. Anyone know why?

Forged are called July 20 and CNC are July 21. I've asked that question myself.

They don't have a quick release. Some will have a hard time getting the wheel in and out unless your levers have a QR. One could also turn the barrel adjuster, and there is a grub bolt which will open and close the caliper. Seems like they are a PITA just to get the wheel back in on the side of the road after a flat.

There was also an issue where the hole for the brake housing is too small. The ferrule on the end of the brake housing would not fit, or would fit tight to the point where twisting the adjusting barrel would also twist the ferrule and cable housing. Some people ran brake housing without a ferrule but found that the end of the housing would deteriorate and the brakes would get a bit squishy.

That is all good to know, but I thought the cable with the stop attached just slipped out of the caliper arm as a quick release. Is that what you call a grub bolt? Ah, I see it is more commonly called a set screw. That I am familiar with. Yes the cable is held in place in a metal cyclinder with a set screw. When you compress the caliper tight on the rim, you get enough slack in the cable so that little cylinder slips out of the notch in the caliper arm and acts as a quick release. No need to loosen the screw....I think!

You didn't do anything wrong, and not sure what he meant, but I think you may have responded to something posted by bianchi10 back during the earlier life of this thread. SundayNiagra likely didn't catch it and thinks your post is off-topic. bianchi10 hasn't been a part of the second pass through this thread.

This is what I hate about forums, in that threads get hijacked all over the place.

You hijacked the thread by asking if they would fit your bike.
