Motobecane Grand Record
Here is a rather small frame out of the line. This unit was a poor little abandoned frame picked up off the street next to a dumpster in between a couple of used bike outlets, Recycled Cycles and 2nd Base. Just as pictured frame cranks hs. Wrote on top in gold ink was like a garage sale price of $10 and a bunch of other scribbling. It screamed out to me please pick me up, I will be very good to you.
The paint is in really good shape very shiny a few chips but no major scratch, no dents. Yep in the back of the truck it is.

Very well done! Though I don't have one, I've always had a soft spot for that crankset.

Steal of a deal. I love mine. Looks like maybe a '73 or '74. And that's my fave stem. And with BB, HS and Stem sorted, no further french threading worries to slow down the build. Full speed ahead. I'm guessing it'll take a 26.4 seatpost.

Can’t believe a couple of bike shops wouldn’t at least pull the cranks for resale. Probably didn’t have the Stronglight crank puller I suppose. Great find!

How cool. I had one of these in the same color and possibly the same year. Mine was a '78 Grand Jouble in a larger size frame. Mine was also black with red accents.

I'm guessing '76 or '77 as it has the later style block type on the down tube, has the brass headtube plaque, and doesn't have the Nervex lugs that were on GRs prior to that. Fantastic find!!! You'll love this bike once you get it built up.

Unfortunately this one is small for me, however it is the correct size for Mrs. 66. Which in turn gives me an excuse to do a build.
Headset felt slow and tight removing locknut, the washer were not in the keyway, they needed pinching to be rotated in place slid out good. Cleaned up the threads pull the cup. The stuff inside is more like a plastic than grease. Never did one like this.

Looks like your typical 40-year old, never been rebuilt headset. Sludge-city!

Here are some of the bright shiny objects that look pretty good for this build. Not quite matching but still close to what it could of had, more than likely it had Normandy Lux hubs HF, to go with the stronglight cranks.

Ok this is starting to take shape, the rd is fpo wasted but a good looker for the pictures. The FD on the floor is toast also. The universal brakes look great and have the reach for 700 wheelsets. I've placed wienman pads on the calipers, I was going to go with the wienman brakes but I found that some of these came with the 61s. The 61 in the earlier picture was aquired in a trade with my big bro, I gave him a Schwinn approved brake for his tandem that gave him last year. The other caliper was an orfan pickup form a new/used bike store, I got the levers from the same store a few months later. The mounting hardware came from the same brake as the pads, street find salvage.
The levers are actually for a different build, or were, I should say now. The handle bars were the most difficult install freaking ever, I think the goose neck clamp is skewed even wedged open, hell to put in place. Took me three attempts, I measured it's the right size. Well it's on there I'm never taking those off that stem. The hideously ugly bars with the pantogragh beautiful for this build.

I said I wouldn't get another French bike but this makes me question that. At least the rear dropouts are 'normal' and the headset can take something other than a short stack stronglight.
