Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Never clean your bike again??.....

Imagine spraying your clean frame and all other non-moving parts with this stuff. Would never come back from a muddy/wet ride with gunk stuck in all those hard to find places... Would need to keep it away from all the moving parts though. Don't see being able to spray this near derailleurs, brakes or bearings, but it could make keeping a bike clean so much easier.

that would be sweet, although the commercial reminds me of sham wow or other shady infomercial techniques.

But the frame is easy to clean anyways, its all the small moving parts that suck.

Hydrophobic coatings are popping up everywhere. I've even seen a few companies that use hydrophobic coatings to make water resistant phones, tablets, etc.

It wouldn't be a bad idea on bikes. I'm curious if it would work well enough to prevent build-up on cyclocross bikes...? Now that could revolutionize how cyclocross races go in the mud. People without extra bikes in the pit wouldn't have to worry about dealing with build up of crud.

I can see a few interesting uses with this stuff. Might be pretty cool! What if you just sprayed a stripped frame? You wouldn't have to worry about hitting any mechanical parts in that case, and it wouldn't leave any frame areas that could accrue debris.

I'd like to try it on a bike chain. I'm sure it would wear off where metal parts rub, then lube it.

I coat my new frames with Optimum opti-coat 2.0. It's harder than clearcoat and is a permanent bond. It's used in the high end detailing industry. I've had it on my car since I took delivery over a year ago and it's still as good as day one. Nothing sticks to the coating so a simple spray down and the bike is clean as new.

I would definitely take some of this, strip my frame and give it a proper coat. Would make clean up so much easier through the winter.

I sent a message to the manufacturer but I can't tell if you can buy this stuff yet.

I'm sure this stuff is just a spin on teflon. Gore-Tex, DWR, Nikwax, waterproofing leather treatment, and all such anti-H2O things are all that same material. It would stay on a frame just fine, but it wears off fairly easily with any sort of abrasion. So I wouldn't even consider it being on gears or chains. Go with wax lube there.

Somebody should make a water-resistant water bottle...
