Figured if we can have a cyclists and their watches thread, we can have this also.

There seem to be a lot of members here who also have a passion for photography. I put most of my money into my bike so I dont have much available to put into photo gear.

I'm currently using a Canon t2i with a cannon 18-135mm lens. I had a a sigma 10-20mm UW lens which was really nice but I didn't use it enough to justify keeping. I'd love to invest into a nice 50mm 1.4 or even 1.2, but again most of my funds go towards my bike. Maybe someday.

I love watching DigitalRev reviews on youtube. Great reviews and I learn a lot from them.

I've got a Canon xsi with a Sigma 24-70 lens. Favorite thing to shoot with it is bike races, and the Michigan State campus. I'll share a couple of shots, the first is from the 2011 US Pro Criterium Championships in Grand Rapids. Second is from MSU's campus.

Great shots! How do you like that sigma lens? whats the F-stop on that?

Photography has for the past few years overtaken cycling as my main money sink. At the moment I have a panasonic GH2 with a 14-45mm, 45-200mm, 35-100mm f2.8, 7.5mm fisheye and 25mm f1.4 prime lens. For the versitility of it is an wonderfully small kit. I'm happy to carry alot of it mountaineering and such, along with a small travel tripod, and the constant apeture zoom isn't to large either.

I've been shooting with a 5D for some time, currently only 3 lenses - TS-E 90 primarily for product shots, although I do some landscape panoramas with it, too, the EF 40 f/2.8 STM is my walk-around and I have an adapted Olympus 28/3.5 that I used for landscapes.

Thanks! It's a great lens, pretty versatile. I've shot a couple of weddings with it too. F2.8, which was the big draw for me.

I'm the other way around - photography USED to be my main money sink, now it's bike(s). As my main subjects are my kids, I have more of a sports / action line up.
1dIII, 16-35 f2.8, 17-40f4, 24-70f2.8, 50f1.8, 50f1.4 (converted an old MF lens, this isn't the canon f1.4), 70-200f2.8 and 300 f4 IS. The nice thing about camera gear is that there's a lively used market for all of it (not one of those items was purchased new)


Oh yeah - how do you guys transport your gear on your bike?

Looking at what other people have posted I feel I should put some images up, but most of what I've photographed recently has been for other peoples use, and alot of the time they've been stark naked (been doing charity calendars) so I guess I probably shouldn't.

Photography is another one of my hobbies as well. Getting into cycling last year, I found out very quickly to carry a camera with me. I am looking forward to shooting some more rural scenes as I ride this year. I use a Nikon D40 & D5000 mainly with the 35mm f1.8 lens. Here is a shot I did on a fishing trip:

I'm in this camp as well...actually sold all my DSLR stuff and am back to using Panasonic or Canon superzooms. Bokeh is acceptable if you know what you're doing, although it'll never equal that of higher end glass. The costs for the lenses I lusted after wasn't justifiable....at least with bikes many of the incremental costs come in slightly more palatable chunks...as long as I don't get it in my head I need some of them carbon THM cranks.

The 50mm 1.8 is a great lens as well, don't doubt it just because its cheap!

Photography and cycling are pretty much the only hobbies I have any more. I've got a D7000, and a few lenses, but the two I use the most are the 50 f1.8 and 70-200 zoom.

This is so true. Modern cameras have such great high-ISO performance, having a big maximum aperture isn't as important as it was in the film days. On top of that, controlling depth of field wide open at f1.8 is enough of a struggle. Unless you really need it, I'd go with the f1.8, it's going to be smaller, lighter, and about half the price.

Love this picture enjoi07! Street photography is something I'd like to do more of, but I struggle to get over the awkward feeling of a stranger leering behind a telephoto lens. Landscape photography like this seems like a good way to get over my phobia. I've heard quite a few street photographers say that the new mirrorless cameras like the OMD are great since they're so much more unobtrusive.

That's the boat I'm in too. I'm a Nikon guy, D7000 (currently), Tokina 11-16 2.8, 17-55 2.8, 70-200 2.8, 35 2.0 for walking around, 10.5 fisheye for fun. I used to spend hours per day at dpreview.com forums, now I'm here. Amazing thing is that the nastiest CF v. Steel thread here is NOTHING compared to Nikon v. Canon threads at dpreview.
