Sounds like another case where an "expert" needs to get around. It's unlikely that what works as a rule of thumb in the northeast U.S. will be appropriate in the southeast (or southwest, for that matter). As long as the entire world has a radius of 100 miles or so, anyone can be an expert. Surprisingly to some, what works at a cool Boston marathon (average temp 45 F) to prevent hyponatremia will cause heat stroke when applied inappropriately to Washington, D.C.'s Marine Marathon.
