Well, about half an hour ago I tore my cog off the hub and demolished the threads.

Anyways, I was thought these looked nice for a new wheelset. Any comments or suggestions?

Both wheee\lsets are good,and they are cheaper if you get them in silver.

why not get just a rear? Your front should be okay since last i checked it's not attached to the rear hub threads

CR-18's are the cockroaches of bicycle wheels. They aren't pretty to look at but they will be the only part of your bike to survive nuclear winter.

I found them to be a little finicky to build with, but once built up, CR18s are a good strong rim. Plan on running wider tires though because CR18s are wider than a typical road rim.

Those formula hubs are sealed...you can see it in the close-up of the hub.

My CR18s are doing well. If you buy them prebuilt, take them to a good wheelbuilder and have him/her check the spokes for even tension. Best rims in the world can taco easily if laced up poorly while cheap rims done right will last forever. Harris Cyclery built mine.

$125 is a really great deal for those wheels, but for that price don't expect them to have been built with the utmost attention to perfection. No doubt they need to be stress relieved and retensioned.

Cockroach rims indeed...about 4 years ago I got caught in a freak rainstorm and had an unfixable flat with my CR18 rimmed rear wheel about 14 miles from home. To make matters worse, it was raining so heavily my cell phone shorted out and I was nowhere near a gas station or other place of convenience. Standing in 8 inches of flowing water with sand and gravel suspended in it, and with no other options, I ended up riding home on the rim through several inches of water most of the way and several feet of water in some places. I remember lots of places where sand and rocks the size of cobblestones were literally washing over the road surface. By the time I got home I was sure my wheel was toast. The tire and tube were shredded, but the rim was fine except for a few small nicks and scratches from hitting rocks around the outer edge. Those wheels are still in use today.

there's a couple sets of dp18's on ebay (if you don't mind v sections) for 105 shipped...

or just get a hub and rebuild.

We kids also prefer email over telegraphs, electric lights over oil lamps, and many of us use toilet paper instead of corn husks to wipe our arses. Modern technology; embrace it.

/actually, the last wheel I built up with a CR-18 was a loose bearing high flange shimano hub.
